Playoffs are seeded, then the bowls get the seed they get after the playoffs are seeded.

If you get the #1 seeded ACC team, now you get the #1 seeded non-playoff ACC team.

So with no conference playoff who goes to their respective bowl games will be decided by rankings or head to head competition? Since OSU is going to the NC, would you have picked PSU or Wisconsin if they had not played each other?

I don't understand the confusion about seeding bowl games? There are strict rules on how bowl games are seeded, certain bowls get the best remaining available teams from each conference after the playoffs/national championship are seeded, based where they finish within their conference.

Bids to college bowl games - Wikipedia <--that is how the Big 10 is seeded to bowls

Conference Championships aren't significant ... currently (because the NCAA has decided they're pointless and meaningless in the National Championship picture) or historically (because they just never existed historically. lol It's not like we're breaking some long-standing tradition by doing away with them ... most were created in the last 10 or 12 years. The oldest one is like 20 years old. Traditionally, the champions are decided by round robin. The only reason they were created was to add an extra week of revenue for the schools and the NCAA ... but by doing away with the conference championship games, we can extend the playoffs without extending the season, so you don't lose the week of revenue.

Without the conference championships, Penn St would still be conference champion and would still go to the same bowl game, based on in-conference record (8-1 to 7-2). Now, if you want to go back to their records prior to the conference title game, then Penn St is 7-1 and Wisconsin is 7-1, both have the same overall record, then there's a bunch of different tiebreakers (record vs common opponents, etc). If all tie-breakers are even, they share the conference title and the bowl committee takes the higher ranked team.

Admittedly, seeding to meaningless and pointless bowls could get marginally more complicated in the event of a tie for a conference championship (but not really). But at the end of the season, would you rather have a definitive and undisputed seed playing in the Jiffy Lube Bowl or a more definitive national champion?

There is no need to expand. At the most, the playoffs should be 6 teams. When you expand, you loose the things that makes college football so popular - the regular season and the arguing.

With 6, 4 teams have an extra game. With 8 it's equal. 8-4-2

How did they decide conference championships were meaningless? Because they allowed one team in that wasn't? 3 of the 4 ARE conference champions.

You are the one who wants to say f*ck you to the value of a conference championship by expanding the playoffs to 8 teams. Don't you get that? You support a playoff that would allow 3 big ten teams that did not win that conference championship a playoff spot!

Some of you guys have to think before you post. So if Penn St. got in over OSU i can announce that winning percentage(91.6%) vs 84.6%) and fewer losses don't mean anything? That an 18 point win over the 7th best team in the country on the road does not matter? I can say that they don't give a f*ck that OSU beat a team, Michigan that blew Penn St out by 39 points.

Gosh grow up! The committee considered all these things when they made their decision.

    One more thing.

If you want to say that Penn State deserved the playoff spot over OSU then make your case for that. Arguing for an 8 team playoff is an argument for both teams getting in. Plus Michigan and plus Wisconsin of course:woohoo:.

You are making arguments that contradict each other!
