Agreed. He needs a reason to be on the roster. Question is, are they keeping Spence and Palmer as those are the two players he'd be competing with. We know Spence is decent in pass coverage and better than Woodyard. But the other question is, do we keep Woodyard who has a high cap hit and isn't a full time starter. Do they start Spence and need another backup ILB? Do we draft a Foster? Do we sign a Jamie Collins?

Lots of possibilities. But first, let's see how he does at the senior bowl where we KNOW he's gonna get matched up one v one in coverage vs TE's and RB's. No need to debate.

I don't think he'll ever be an ILB who's asked to cover someone man to man in the NFL who is an elite athlete. But he was on occasion asked to cover some decently fast players who tried to expose his speed and he won more of those battles than he lost. But let's watch the SR Bowl and come back and see what we think then. And then re-evaluate him again after the combine.

So are you asking for full scouting reports on every prospect that someone brings to the table? How are you claiming you don't expect day one starters but yet want in depth details on who they are better then on the team and would replace.

His play speaks for itself, turn on the film. Obviously you haven't watched enough if you think he can't cover the league's worst TEs.

Asking for a ILB to cover and play the run exceedingly well is a rare feat, or you would see more Luke Kuechly's. The kid can read and diagnose plays and he is a film junkie that alone will keep him in this league for a long time. He is decent in coverage and against the run. His leadership is off the charts and could easily be the QB of a defense making all the adjustments.

To sit here and think he'll beat either Woodyard or Williamson out Day 1 is a huge reach. That's why we're discussing him in the late rounds and not the first. The idea of a late round pick is for them to sit and learn, and be groomed to take over.

Yep. He said Galik was the best prospect i that class and that we got a steal.

It's not day 1 starter but limited roster that makes that question valuable. You seemed to want to argue his place so that's what I presented to you. 4th string players have to have some sort of value. It's not asking for "full scouting reports" - but explaining the process that will be taken. If you or I can't find any fit, comparably- it's doubtful the team will.

Please read the link I posted, I'm far from saying he's useless. Again, I find him limited and on the wrong side of the needs list. The process will not allow 5th-6th-7th-UDFA draft position to break the mold... his football accumen may be enough to sway them but not without asking the question of where on the roster he fits.

I'd be fine with him as a late round pick, I could see some team letting him sit on the practice squad for a year, the question is still who's spot of the 53 (starter or backup) does he take?

We will have FA openings with some 18 or so guys looking to test the market.

Yeah. Not sure if he said he was the best player, but definitely thought he was the best OC in that draft. He thought Temple's Kyle Friend was the best OC in last year's draft too so he does come up with some headscratchers. Friend was not drafted and Gallik was taken late and didn't stick.

He also thought Cardale Jones should be drafted by the Rams in one of his january mocks I think.

    Take it as you will.

So going through the 56 pages of draft prospects, where have you demanded this kind of analysis on prospects? I don't understand what your trying to accomplish here. Their are too many variables between now and draft day to know where our roster will sit (since you bring up free agency).

Day 1 he's an upgrade over Nate Palmer. Obviously, Williamson is a good young player whose not going anywhere. Dick Lebeau loves Spence, who is our 3rd down coverage guy. Leaves you with an aging inconsistent Woodyard, and possible cap casualty. Boulware, if properly groomed and can adjust to the speed of the NFL could take over Woodyard spot year 2.

I'll remember ever prospect I bring up to have a full partriot scouting report ready for your liking.

I wasn't trying to offend you, obviously I rubbed you the wrong way here. Regardless, I don't see him as an upgrade. Personal opinion. We can agree to disagree. Palmer has more versatility being able to play inside and outside but could get left behind. Woodyard is the guy to replace obviously but that leaves Spence full time which poses some risk. (If we resign him as we should.)

Believe me I'm not offended. However, I'm not going to pretend I'm a scout like 95% of people on this board and go through "the process" on each prospect. Merely asking what are you trying to accomplish by singling out one prospect in a thread of many.

I wasn't singling you or Boulware out, don't mistake that. It was merely a reply to his fit on the team. I don't see it, you are bullish on him so I asked how strong you are about it. Bang the table. Don't get offended when others disagree. That's... part of the process. :)
