You can say something similar about any leadership trait.

Doesn't change the fact that making sure his guys are focused is, in fact, in his job description.

If a team of 50+ guys shows up unfocused, no one is going to blame 50+ individuals. That's why "leadership positions" are a thing.

Maybe he wasn't stern enough. Or his voice squeaked during the pep talk and threw it all off.

Or cried. He does seem to cry a lot. Can't focus on games when your coach is crying.

Yep, totally on Mularkey. Disappointing. Especially so because he actually noticed it and apparently did nothing about it.

A coach can only do so much just like any other leader/boss. The blame may go to the leader, but that doesn't necessarily mean the leader was the one that didn't do their job.

This is especially true when you have a team and every person has to do their job exactly right multiple times. That's not taking into account that there's also another team trying to keep them from doing their job perfectly. The coach can scream and yell all he wants but there is a lot of things that have to go right on every play...a lot of times it doesn't.

Maybe he didn't cry, but they would have won if he did cry. Defense is all like, "Coach isn't even crying. Probably gonna lay back on these pass rushes a bit."
