Mccourty isn't worth 7.25 an hour playing cb anymore. He can literally do nothing a nfl corner should do anymore and he's only going to decline from now on. I don't trust him to be more than a #4 cb on this team and 7m is WAY to much for that. I'd be more comfortable picking up an undrafted fa cb vs keeping mccourty.

    me too

    and heres why

McCourty cant get better, like you said, its only going to get worse for him

might as well let a young and hungry player come in who wont cost us much

and I dont even care that hes due $7M, its the fact hes terrible thats making we want him out

Does McCourty have any dead cap space if he's cut pre/post June 1st?

Then I probably cut him. Maybe keep him as a camp body, but that's kind of a dick move. The dude has been bad for years though, no reason to keep him at this point. Cut him, add a few million and go sign Bouye or Ryan.

I agree McCourty is not good & definitely not worth 7 million. I do not think he will get cut tho. Although I think he is worthy of being cut; Mularkey & LeBeau both hate playing rookie DBs. They mentioned it several times this year. I believe they will have to play a young guy with as much as the secondary needs help. However, I still think they hold on to McCourty for that reason. So they can have another vet to fall back on. I do not like the idea myself, however, I do see it playing out that way. I would rather see us spend that 7 million to bring in a FA vet.

As far as Searcy goes; he really wasn't that bad. He wasn't great by any means. He could've been better. However, I do think he has the capability of being better. He needs to have some talent around him before you can really evaluate him.......He may not be great, but Starting level Safeties are not easy to find & are in high demand. I read an article on NFL.com that said, "Nearly every team in the NFL would like to have an upgrade at one of their Safety spots." I could see that....I am not saying he is going to turn out great. I just think we should be a bit more patient with him. At least until there is 1 decent starter at CB. UNLESS we land Adams or Hooker in the draft.... THEN he could be expendable. Byard & Adams or Hooker would make for a very good Safety tandem. However, holding on to Searcy as a back up would not be the worst decision.

Sorry........I tend to ramble on when talking about the Titans.....I love football. Could go on for hours.

I agree 100% and think it's the right thing to do for him & the team. That way he can TRY to catch on with another team.....

I just think he is one of those guys that Mularkey will want to hang on to for too long. Just like he was with McCluster.

It wouldn't be the worst move the team has made. I would rather see a young hungry FA come in & take his place. In any event; there is NO WAY he should be a starter at either outside spot! If they want to hang on to him as insurance, a mentor, or just to be good to a long time fan favorite; I wouldn't like it. However, I would understand. Although cutting him while he still MAY be able to make it onto another roster; would probably be treating him better than watching him decay in front of his current team.

I am really excited to see what JRob puts together in the secondary this year. The secondary has been SOOOO bad for SO long; I am really excited to see any upgrade he can make.

I still don't think we draft a CB in the 1st. If for no other reason than it is possibly the deepest position in this Free Agency period with 8 CB's in PFF's Top 50 FA. Add to that it being the deepest position in the draft too, and I can't imagine a scenario where we don't add AT LEAST one of the top CB free agents, and then hold off until the 2nd and/or 3rd to draft a CB.

I also think Robinson and Mularky still think Sims could develop into a quality starter.

I'll take Truman Johnson and Logan Ryan or Morris Claiborne in FA, and add Adoree Jackson and Desmond King in the 2nd and 3rd to compete with Sims and Reed going forward and we are in business.

Des King is gonna end up being a nickel Safety in the league. Adoree... well he's fast.
