Looking back at the 18th picks over the years its pretty bad whos name show up.

Outside of Pouncey theres not much hope.

Whereas top 10 picks have about a 50/50 chance at being elite players.

Might be a good move trading up from 18....

I can easily see why a trade back is appealing. There is so much depth in the secondary talent and we have a huge need there.....Trading up is a bit more tricky IMO. There has to be some one there worth the price. Without knowing who may fall it's hard to get on board for that. Although it does seem like a player falls every year that we expect to go top 10.

As you said it would have to be a guy you are sure is going to be a stud. Trading up from 18 without a 2nd this year is going to cost more in future draft currency. So it would have to be a guy that the team is 100% sure will be starting & making a difference this year IMO........ Interesting to think about though.

If we take our top defensive player @5 & JRob wants WR "X" then I believe he will have to trade up to get that guy. I do not see all 3 top WRs making it to pick 18....

This is one reason I think we should address WR with our 1st pick......With the talent available on the defensive side of the ball it would be much easier to address defense with the 18th pick & still get a player of value/need..... Whereas if we go defense with the 1st pick it will be harder to address the offensive needs at 18. There is just not as much talent on the offensive side of the ball.

I was die hard set on going defense with the 1st pick at the end of the season. A knee jerk reaction to being so bad on defense I guess. However, when you think about it; taking the best offensive player first makes more sense. There is enough defensive talent in this draft to still get a valuable player at 18. I am not sure the same can be said for offense. Especially when you consider who is picking before us at 18; and the needs they have......

It is definitely harder to say go defense at 5 than I originally thought it would be...

I'd be cool with it as long as it didn't involve next year's draft picks.
