I think you do that to an extent, and I think we've already done that to a pretty good degree. But leaving some holes for backup and niche roles is a really good place for rookies to step into. If you have every spot filled up going into the draft, how do you expect the younger guys to get reps and prove themselves in practice?

Injuries happen, guys get old, young bucks make coaches make decisions. Those are all great problems to have opposed to relying on draft picks too early and when they don't pan out.

It's not a good thing when all guys drafted 3rd round and on are backups that year.

Right. He also brought in Spence, who is the subject matter of this thread. Yes, it would be better if we kept him, but no reason for people to be so pissed about it. He can be replaced just as easily as he was brought in. You can't blame the Titans for the guy trying to become a starter somewhere else.

Had we already signed a backup plan- this would be a non issue. But we are still here with no nickel LB. And a base "coverage" guy in Woodyard that can't cover. So...

I'm really not seeing much out there in the way of a good Nickel LB in free agency nor the mid to late rounds of the draft. Honestly not sure who we're expecting to play the two LB spots in nickel at this point. Morgan and Orakpo are the edge rushers, I'd expect Williamson to man one spot, but Woodyard is older and mediocre at best there so he's a no.

I know JCB was being sarcastic, but Cyp isn't going to play a Nickel LB. He'd be the inside CB spot, so that doesn't help either. The only two guys that seem to have much coverage potential in the draft seem to be Hasaan Reddick and Reuben Foster who are 3 down LB's.

The other way I could see us going is picking up a guy who played SS in college and converting him to nickel LB in the vein of Deone Buchanan.

Josh Harvey Clemons is a good option for that transition

Yup, he was one of the ones I saw that had the size/skill set to do it.

Also for consideration would be Montae Nicholson from Michigan State, Josh Jones from NC State, or Rayshawn Jenkins from Miami.
