He might very well be an upgrade to the Sean Spence role which was as the coverage lber

This is why i think he got signed as well. He's a small, fast ilb.

Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere (if so, my bad), but Rashad Johnson and Damion Stafford are still available. I wouldn’t have been upset if we brought either back. I know I’m going to get a lot of hate because people on this board despise average/decent players and expect to sign pro bowlers at every position, but role players are important. I think both can be had real cheap. They know the system and can add some value.

I’m sure the team is waiting to see how the draft shakes out, but it is interesting to see we didn’t at least retain one. Cyprien completely trumps the need for Stafford now. Rashad wasn’t as awful in coverage as people here probably think. If McCourty is let go, Searcy would be our only real veteran in the secondary.

I'm not sure I liked what I read about Cyprien not exclusively being in the SS mold with the Titans.

We are asking for trouble if we plan on playing double safeties with Cyprien as one of the coverage safeties. This was a lot of our problems with this signing, he's exclusively a run defender, not a secondary player.

looks like Michelle Griffin, covers like Bernard Pollard. That's a really, really bad combo.

You avoid that problem by playing him exactly how the Jaguars used him last year. He can cover TEs all day long. That's the most we should ask of him. Stuff the run and cover TEs. Simple. We don't have to draft a player in the 1st rd to do that now.

He's been in the league 4 years, people know his strengths and weaknesses. They aren't going to put him in a position to fail. To suggest that they will is completely idiotic.

And I guess everyone thinks all passing plays are 20 yard go routes (many were against the Titans), but a good portion of passing plays take place in the box, where Cyprien excels. He'll be good in zone cover duties.

This is false. He sucks at covering tight ends.

Even Jags fans after he signed here were saying "awesome. The middle seam will be open every time."

And "Mercedes Lewis is about to go back to the Pro Bowl again."
