Will it though. They put cyprien as a true ss. We have searcy to play that role. We are very apparently not asking him to play the role, the jahs asked him to. Also note the jags have won like 3 games in the past 15 years, I'd say we have a better idea on how to use players.

He sucks when you put him in zone coverage or as a deep safety. He isn't good in space. However when you get him closer to the line of scrimmage and you ask him to play man to man against TEs he holds his own. Much better than what we had last year.

Michael DiRocco, Jaguars reporter: Maybe it's because I've seen every snap he has played, but I did find it curious that Tennessee gave safety Johnathan Cyprien a four-year, $25 million contract with $9 million guaranteed. I don't understand the attraction. The Jaguars' second-round pick in 2013 played in and started 60 games in his four seasons with the team but made few impact plays. He had just two interceptions, 15 pass breakups and four forced fumbles. Granted, the Jaguars drafted him to be a box safety in former coach Gus Bradley's defense (the spot Kam Chancellor plays), and he did make a lot of tackles (442), but he is a problem in coverage. Because of a lack of a quality free safety with the ability to play single high coverage, the Jaguars had to use Cyprien in coverage more than they wanted in his first three seasons, and he did not fare well. If the Titans are going to use him almost exclusively as a box safety, then the move makes sense. If they're going to give him more than just spot work in coverage -- especially against tight ends -- then they're going to have some trouble limiting big plays.

I take more stock from a guy who covered their team and each practice over what some of our Homer posters want to think.

I take NOTHING the Jaguars say seriously.....Franchise with proven failure year in and year out despite numerous early first round picks...They have no QB and no O line. Maybe Cyp sucks...We will see, but F that team and their lame fan base.

What does them not having a QB/OL have anything to do with us overpaying a guy who can't play Safety and has major coverage issues?

if you recall we picked top 2 the previous 2 yrs, we aren't exactly the model of brilliance.

I feel like that says it all right there: the Jags played him out of position, and he was crap at it.

We have true deep cover safeties in Byard and Searcy (or if we go Hooker/Adams or a later round one like Eddie Jackson they would cover that as well). Cyp doesn't have to play single high safety here.

I'll let the true team analysts counter-argue:

Paul Kuharsky, Titans reporter: Johnathan Cyprien's jump from the Jaguars to the Titans. He played better than most people know in his final season with the Jaguars. They preferred Barry Church, whom they signed from Dallas. The Titans like Cyprien better than Da'Norris Searcy, who was signed by the previous regime. Searcy has two seasons remaining on a deal with base salaries of $5.625 million and $6.125 million. Now Cyprien is in line for $6.25 million on average. That could mean the end of the line for Searcy, who is not due to be paid anything until Week 1. Or it could mean the Titans have a highly paid third safety, with the hard-hitting, sure-tackling Cyprien shifting to virtual linebacker in nickel and dime packages.

    Paul Kuharsky ESPN Staff Writer
While Johnathan Cyprien's been a box safety and can work as a nickel linebacker, Mike Mularkey said Cyprien can play in coverage as needed. But the Titans coach stopped short of saying Kevin Byard is now a center-fielding free safety. The Titans will continue to mix and match safeties for situations and matchups as warranted, Mularkey said.

Well the team reporter reporting on what the Head Coach says about the role of said overpaid free agent signing means what? That GoTitans posters still know more about how awesome Cyprien is?
