Would I give those guys back for 43 and 45 this year? Yes. Not so much because of those players but rather this draft is deeper at positions of need where we can get starters or backups at more important positions.

We haven't seen enough of AJ but I think we can all appreciate Henry, but he's a backup and probably won't be the fulltime starter for another year or two. Meanwhile, I could have a starter at another position we are weak at playing for 2-3 years.

Who I would take is very dependent on who we take at 5 and 18 and what players are available there. Here's a list of players who could be available at a few positions...

CB - Adoree, Awuzie, White, King, SJones (medical out for 2017), FMoreau
    S - MWilliams, BBaker, Maye
ILB - Cunningham, JDavis, TJ Watt, McMillian, DRiley
OLB (depth/heir) - CHarris, CLawson, TWilliams, TBashem
    TE - EEngram, Njoku
WR - ZJones, DWestbrook (off field/medical), CSamuel (RB/WR/KR), Darboh,
    Godwin
DL - (depth)Wormley, Adams, DWalker (sub pass rush)
OG - Lamp, CRobinson, Feeny, Dawkins, DJohnson, Asiata
RB - Kamara, Mixon (off field)

Suppose we take Hooker at 5 and Conley at 18. Maybe we could add JDavis and Zay Jones at 43 and 45. Jones would be expected to win the #2 spot at least and JDavis would expect to start next to Williamson. Two starters at positions of need after we fill two other holes (FS and CB) in the first.

Compare that to the limited playing time AJ got and Henry got. Again, this is not a knock on those players, just that I want our 2nd rounders playing on the field as starters, not riding the bench. This is one area JRob and I disagree. I also feel this draft is deeper at positions we need starters for and has good depth at NT and RB among many others.

In addition, we had plenty of opportunities to give Henry more playing time as warranted (3rd and short or 4th and short or goal line) where he wasn't even on the field. If we are gonna be a smash mouth football team and we have a 260lb FB with a 250+lb rb, run some people over! At the very least, would really sell the playaction!

Enough with the hypothetical threads. Please let next weekend get here so we can stop this. We have who we have and the past isn't going to change.

100%, not sure why this is even a question. With how much talent there is in this draft, I'd definitely give up my back up running back for a chance to land some quality guys at bigger needs.

This is exactly the kind of well thought out, well articulated response I was hoping for with this thread. Thank you. The point wasn't to nitpick the picks, but to ask the real question, if you COULD take those picks back, would you?

I personally agree with Gut here. I think Henry has the potential to be a star here, and AJ could still develop into a legitimate starter. But this draft is far more stacked at positions of need than last year's was. I probably would roll the dice and hope for two starters at the 43&45 spots this year.

I get the point about a deeper draft and immediate needs, but I think Henry and AJ are going to be cornerstones.

I would probably say no. I think aj will pan out, just taking him some time.
I don't love Henry as much as some of you (i think he needs to be way more aggressive for a guy his size, got nothin on eddie) but i do like Henry and think he will be good for us.
Plus, we need a backup rb that's good enough to start.. part of our gameplan is to wear down the defense by smacking em in the mouth. We can't have any drop in production when Murray takes a breather. That's one of the reasons it's working so well.

Henry isn't a powerback tho. Running him up the middle with Fowler is a waste of what he does best

The playaction aspect I do like but it's a hard sell if you play Henry over Murray

I get the Henry pick is viewed a waste since he's currently a backup, but when his time comes I fairly certainly everyone will be glad he's here

If we did not have Henry then IMO we would be looking to get 2 RBs in this draft. I'm not convinced we land a guy as good as Henry.

Same goes for Johnson. Not sure which NT I like in the mid to late rnds.

The way things have played out this draft is deep in the positions that we need. As long as we can turn #5 and #18 into 3 picks we will be fine.

And then there will be 100 threads bitching about THIS drafts picks before they ever even play a snap. Which is almost worse than bitching about players from last years draft that barely played.
