His interview may have single handedly been the best moment in the draft. Zero f*cks given

I say it nearly every year. So what? It's the heartbreak of being a long time season ticket holder of a franchise that has never won it all.

I've thought a lot about this last night. The trade mark was the 49ers all along. I believe both the Browns and the Bears knew each other were in play for Trubisky. It was evident the Browns had zero interest in Watson as they traded out of their opportunity to the Texans so I think their trade dried up after the Bears got the trade from the 49ers rather than them. I have no other ideas about why we didn't get a trade offer out of five.

Let me take this opportunity to clarify my position. I don't think that Davis or Jackson are bad players. I think they will contribute. My dissatisfaction is that we clearly drafted for need over BPA. And there were clearly better players available at the spots we drafted Davis and Jackson. Davis being a solid contributor is not value enough to have him at #5- he will have to be a multi-pro bowl caliber player. That's a lot of pressure. And I see a few players taken after him with a MUCH higher probability of being a multi-pro bowl caliber player.

The same principle holds to a lesser degree for Jackson. He is a small CB. IMO, there were clearly better players available that have a MUCH higher probability of being an impact player. Jackson is going to have to cover bigger guys that IMO will beat him on contested balls. I guess LeBeaux liked the kid a lot but I just can't help but think he'd have rather had a different player and the ST's aspect gave Mularkey a boner for this kid.

I honestly believe we'll regret not taking a premier D player with our #5 whether it have been Allen, Hooker, Lattimore. The difference between Davis and what we could have got at #18 just isn't as great as the difference between Hooker/Lattimore/Adams and Jackson. Nor would the impact that somebody like Allen or OJ Howard will have for their team at their positions.

You were right when you said drafting for need sometimes does pan out. It did with Conklin. But IIRC Conklin was rated much higher as a player across the board by experts than was Davis. Drafting WR at 5 puts Davis in rarified air. He BETTER produce an AJ Green, Dez Bryant, Terrell Owens type impact or we really blew passing on that premiere D.

And and #18, we had an INCREDIBLE opportunity to pick up some BPA's that slipped to us. Howard WILL be more of an impact player than Jackson. And possibly even Davis.

So I wish we had gone Allen or Adams with our 5 and Howard with our 18. Maybe we score something for the D in the 3rd but somehow I doubt much will be left. I wouldn't be sad to see us trade up into the 2nd (although we've been historically bad moves when do) if something available.

Anyway- nothing guaranteed. Hoping for the best, but unfortunately expecting the worst.

Teams were wanting to trade up for Trubisky. When he went off the board before our pick, there wasn't anyone that wanted to trade up. You can't just trade when you want to, you have to have a trade partner who wants to move up.

You guys realize if we had gone Adams and Howard we would have left round 1 without addressing either of our 2 biggest needs? These picks addressed our two biggest needs. We are a better team now than we were at the beginning of the day yesterday.

I think some of you complaining we didn't go Adams or Howard would have also been complained that we didn't address our needs if we did take Adams and Howard.

I wouldn't have complained at all. They'd have been BPA.

According to USA Today's Tom Pelissero, teams believe 49ers first-round ILB Reuben Foster will require a second shoulder surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff.

He's already in the midst of recovering from the first one following Alabama's season, and coach Nick Saban, speaking after last night's first round, expressed frustration with Foster's decision to not consult Dr. James Andrews, instead going to a different doctor. Another NFL executive thinks Foster could be a serious problem off the field outside of Alabama, where he had people to "hold his hand." He won't get that in the NFL. While the Foster pick at 31 overall for the 49ers has widely been praised, there are an excess of red flags that could make this pick backfire.
