Maybe so but, the fact these rookies don't know what is going on is the sad part. I'm sure Davis would love to be out there with his teammates and he's not because the agent "wants paid" and he's oblivious to it.
The money part is taken care of, the fact that the language part is a problem for just a couple rookies each year is the problem.
If you suck enough to get cut after 3-4 years you shouldn't get paid by two teams.

If they really wanted to just play they'd tell the agent hurry up & sign or they'll get a new one.

I doubt they are that involved, probably letting the agent " handle" it.
Davis will be guaranteed what? 16 million? That's not enough, he needs to worry about if he's cut 3-4 years down the road? That's the agent talking

The rookie wage scale was suppose to protect teams from bad contracts, pay the man his money!!!!!!!

    I got to be honest.

I would hold out on principle of offset language. But I'm not in my low 20s and needing my first payday. If a team cuts me or terminates my contract, then what I do after that is literally "none of their business" any more.

Having said that, I thought about this a bit more from the team standpoint. Yes- it does allow the opportunity to recoup guaranteed money. But it also is a dis-incentive for a player to "roll over" or quit trying for a team for which they no longer want to play. For example, a high(er) draft pick like Warmack or Zach Brown(?) who just developed a bad attitude and poor performance and laid off effort to preserve himself from injury so his value doesn't diminish for his next contract. That "protection" might be some of the team interest in offset language.

But it seems the best way to approach that is with some modification or conditions such as deteriorating performance due to non injury etc. just prior to being cut. Or other quantifiable behaviors such as tardiness, absence, off field issues etc. I suspect it comes down to that compromise in some fashion.

It should be a diminishing scale. Full offset year one, drops 25% in year two, and so on so that in year four no money remains in offset limbo.

The ultimate tragedy is that this is holding Davis' sister up from having her procedure performed.
