    Yeah but that year before the last year of the contract is often when a player "turtle shells". And teams just don't cut a player in year 2- at least high draft picks.

    Yeah, but it is a compromise that could be universal as it is a practice in many other business models that have a diminishing scale for returns. No perfect way, but at least avoid a stupid holdout over this silly process as it is now.

    don't get me wrong- I'm against the whole idea of offset language. What a player does after a teams cuts him is literally "none of their business" IMO. Don't draft a guy if you think he's a risk.

    This whole offset language is a cheap trick to reduce a team's risk/exposre on a draftee. It leverages the contract simply because the team has the money. I'd holdout if I was a top pick, especially since the CBA reduced rookie contracts and thereby the guaranteed money.

    Jrob can't set the precedent that he rolls over as soon as day 1 of TC starts. He will stick with his guns so Davis will have to compromise more than Johnny. I'm still willing to bet he is signed today though after Davis comes to his senses and tells his agent to go F himself.
