Were you under the impression that Ryan was a shut down corner or something? Do you think he isn't going to be beat this year?

I expect the same Ryan that played for the Pats last season. He's streaky. Some good games, some bad games.

Ryan should improve our secondary but he isn't going to fix it.

Ryan is just a piece of the puzzle. We absolutely need guys like Jackson, Sims, Reed to step in and step up. Our front 7 is doing enough, but we don't have the talent to play man coverage. That's for damn sure. At least not yet

First, them game planning to SOME extent vs us is no excuse. It's not like our OL are 5 rooks who have never started an NFL game...yet we had VETS making big mistakes. That's not a Jets game planned us problem, it's an US problem!!! We gave up EIGHT SACKS!!!

Ryan getting beat deep is an US problem! They didn't do anything cute. We had some bright spots but overall, we got smacked in the mouth by a team that wanted it more than we did. We took the game lightly and it showed. Too many guys reading the hype thinking they were just gonna show up and stomp the Jets. And Mularkey saying he had a bad feeling about the game is a BAD SIGN!!! If a coach doesn't like the trajectory of the players or game planning or attitude, it's up to HIM to change it!

First, let's dispense with the nonsense. Cyprien and Williams are listed as starters in the first depth chart released. They are also the 9th and 10th highest paid players on the team based on salary cap this year. Cyprien's cap jumps to $6.75 for each year of the rest of his contract which would make him 6th. He's here to start!

Williams' is paid more than his opposite in Ben Jones and Williams' contract also rises the next two seasons. He was brought in to start. You don't sign backups that are top 10 cap hits on your roster.

As previously discussed, if your goal is competition and these guys are giving you what you want, it's a very expensive way to go about it! Signing multiple 'backups' for $4.5mil/guy instead of signing a star player for 2-3 times that...is a question of strategy and one of the few areas I really disagree with JRob and Mularkey on. I love competition, but not wasted cap space when we could significantly improve our roster with a few playmakers...and not hopes!

The biggest positives regarding our free agent class is that this is only pre-season week 1. Ryan played his first target very well and had good coverage (better play by the wr) but he did give up the big play.

Not much else to write home about. We'll get a better look on Sat as I expect the 'starters' to go longer (more snaps), the Panthers like to run, and throw it deep so lots of good stuff for Williams, Ryan and Cyprien to be evaluated on.

Cyprien and Williams were signed to start, and they will.

Can't talk bad about JRob/Mularkey for signing expensive competition because the board members saying that here are simply wrong. They were signed with the intention of starting.

Now that's not to say if they stink that the Titans will force them onto the field.
