If we let him sling it more from the pocket like last night and just use the run as a LAST option for him, he'll stay healthy. He's a quarterback for god sake, let him throw it more. He showed how solid of a passer he is last night and how well the offense runs when he is throwing it more

I agree, all the gimmicky stuff presnap could go too...

It slows the tempo down and seems to throw marcus out of rhyme.

The guy threw for 1 TD and 1 pick and you're here acting like this was the "shut up haters" game for him?

Granted- I'd love it if that's all Mariota did each game. Keep it simple.

But if you're using this as the "SEE! HE'S AWESOME" game?... Yikes. That's telling.

Still making rookie mistakes, but glad he gutted it out and came through when we needed him most.

He did make some mistakes, but he was dropping dimes in the second half. Once he got that pick out of the way he was dialed in.

I didn't see any rookie mistakes this game and hardly any this season so far. Is he fumbling snaps, or fumbling when trying to scramble, is he not using the play clock wisely, is he trying to do to much on the run? He hasn't done any of that this season.

“Rookie mistakes” is such an overused cliche. What does that even mean? A guy threw a pick? BFD.

He threw for 300 and a score. He converted third down after third down when the play call put him in 3rd and long consistently. Oh and he’s a statue right now.

They scored 36 points and it easily could’ve been 45+.

I think the whole idea of keeping him in the pocket during the entirety of the game was something he needed badly regardless of the necessity of it because of injury.

I really liked MM8's ability to show he can scan the field beyond the 1st and 2nd reads. He stood in there like stud QB's do.

Overused cliche'? Maybe the mistakes in Mariota's case are overdone and typical?

"He threw for 300 and a score"- actually, the threw for 2 scores. One directly to a defensive end, lazily that went for 6 pts the other way.

    That was one rookie mistake.

Another was when he started to scramble and instead of throwing the ball away, he slid behind the line of scrimmage. That was Bush league. Real bad. Michael Jackson. I get he likely slid due to his injury- but it seemed like he had a brain injury on that play. Simple football knowledge to toss the ball OOB. Incomplete is better than a loss.

"They scored 36 but it COULD have been 45+"..... so why wasn't it? I'll wait.

The pick wasn't even that bad Murray should have pressed up more, **** happens. Worst case scenario that ball should have been deflected. Mariota backpacked the team, bailed out the run game on third and longs, clutch game defining drives and brushed off an injury that takes away his run threat. I'd say he stuck it to the haters pretty good.

Funny when posters only measure a game on how many TDs you throw, I'd take third down conversion rate and chaining firsts downs together driving the field over an extra touchdown pass that could easily be a run any day.
