Yeah, I didn't say dump him. He's the best QB we've had in a while but I don't know that he's head and shoulders above Vince Young at this point.

MM is immune to media criticism for whatever reason. If VY had thrown 4 picks, the media would have hounded him.

Probably because VY was an egotistical jerk, MM has been nothing but humble and mature.

I know everyone's completely focused on the turnovers, but only the first one really bothered me at all. That was a bad overthrow, but was probably from jitters. He calmed down from there and made some unreal throws.

The second one to Davis really looked like Davis stopped his route short and looked like a miscommunication where he read one thing and MM read the other. It looked like CD read zone and thought he should sit down on it, and MM read man and thought he should keep coming - and it was man coverage from what I could tell. I'm going to side with the vet QB over a rookie WR on who read it wrong though.

The third one was a tipped ball, that's just bad luck. We couldn't get a thing to bounce our way last night.

The fourth one I don't really remember because I was drunk by that point. But it was late in a game that was out of hand, didn't really matter, he was just trying to force the ball probably.

I say that depends on what your expectations are for the future of this team... if your expectations are to continue being mediocre with a playoff appearance, one and done, being the ultimate satisfactory goal.... then I say say he is the future! If you would actually like to go deep in the playoffs and shoot for another Super Bowl appearance... I say you couldn’t be more wrong.

Mariota's performance this year has not been NEARLY as bad as many are saying.

He has NOT played great, and many expected him to play great, so they are dissappointed.

He has played above average. (Overall)

His ESPN total quarterback rating this season is 57, which is a solid "above average". He is currently 13th in the league in this stat.

For all his interceptions, you have to take into account his 4 come from behind game winning drives this season in the 4th qtr/OT, not to mention all those great two minute drills at the end of the half to get in field goal range.

This season he is put in 3rd and long WAY too often, with 2 receiver sets. Only so much an "above average" QB can do in those situations.

Now, with any very young QB, and Mariota is still very young, you also need to talk about potential, and Mariota still has a HUGE upside with potential.

Unfortunately, it's no sure thing he will turn into an elite QB, he could stay "above average" his whole career.

Yet I am optimistic about Mariota, his high character, high work ethic makes be believe there is a high probability he WILL, someday, become an elite QB.

But in any case, I think more fans should be grateful that they have an "above average" QB, most teams DON'T!

    P.S.
You want to talk about QB regression, talk about Jamis Winston.
Total QBR of 40.0, 27th in the league this year, after getting 57.2 and 59.5 in his first two years....THAT'S a regression!

I think the 4th quarter comebacks are fine and all, but these aren't shootouts that we're winning late. They are low scoring affairs where the offense struggles for almost the entire game, and much of that has to do with our QB. Against Baltimore and Cincinnati, that's understandable, but the Colts, depleted Texans, Browns, etc., not so much. It does give me hope that once we have a coach who can help develop Mariota to orchestrate an offense for an entire game, he can be a special QB.

And MM8 has also played well the previous 2 years. A down year like we are having is hardly the fault of 1 player. It’s the fault of 1 coach.

Yeah I'd rather have 2009 and 2010 Vince then 2017 mariota. He's been really bad this season but hey at least he steps it up in crunch time
