Most of us were relatively pleased with our defensive play against the Steelers. They were put into tough positions throughout the game, and young additions have shown promise. However, we've also witnessed a complete implosion against the Texans and overall average play. Setting aside blame for DLB, I wanted to take a look at possible UFAs to sign this offseason to shore up our talent gaps. Let me know what you think about the list of guys below:

    Player / Position / 2017 Salary / Age / PFF Grade
    1. Marcus Gilchrist / CB / $3mil / 28 / PFF Grade: 80.3
    2. Prince Amukamara / CB / $7mil / 28 / PFF Grade: 79.4 / Least Targeted CB in NFL
    3. Malcom Butler / CB / $3.9mil / 27 / PFF Grade: 78.9
    4. Jonathan Joseph / CB / $13.5 / 33 / PFF Grade: 77.7
    5. T.J. Ward / SS / $4mil / 30 / PFF Grade: 76.2
    6. Brent Grimes / CB / $13.5mil / 34 / PFF Grade: 73.0
    7. Trumaine Johnson / CB / $16.7 / 27 / PFF Grade: 51.1

For Comparison, below are the PFF Grades for our starters:

    1. Kevin Byard / FS / PFF Grade: 89.6
    2. Jonathan Cyprien / SS / PFF Grade: 37.6
    3. Logan Ryan / CB / PFF Grade: 80.1
    4. Adoree Jackson / CB / PFF Grade: 78.7
    5. Leshaun Sims / CB / PFF Grade: 71.3
    6. Brice McCain / CB / PFF Grade: 46.9
    7. Da'Norris Searcy: PFF Grade: 58.2
    8. Curtis Riley: PFF Grade: 46.6

Admittedly, PFF grading isn't perfect but it's the most objective way as of now for you to get an idea of someone's performance. For example, I think Trumaine Johnson is better than his grade. But as you can see there is a talent gap at SS and CB2. Do you think we should go after some of the UFAs listed?

We just need a #3 CB. Someone in the slot so Sims/McCain stop seeing the field.

    Grimes may be solid.

Or just draft a CB in the top 3 rounds

Think it's a good idea to get another young guy out there to start? Some of these UFAs already have the experience against top WR talent, which we'll need once this division is healthy again.

The best way to fix the secondary is to draft us a stud pass rusher that teams have to fear. Morgan and Orakpo are getting older and are just not that explosive. Improving the pass rush is what needs to happen

Main issue is DLB defense is just not good. We get QB pressure but for the fawking life of me, someone tell me why why why do our corners give 20 yard cushions? That 3rd and long play on Thursday night where Bryant was wide open for a 16 yard gain is just the signature issue. It's always like that. We been talking about this for years and it continues. Back up QBs always have career days against us.

Yep. draft pass rush and NT type. Go ahead and sign pretty much any of those guys.

If nothing else, addition by subtraction, get rid of cyprien McCain and if Riley really isn't offering anything on ST, bye.

Sign even a lower tier guy than what's listed for depth and draft with even a 3rd/4th and I'm good with that.

Key is pass rush. The better the pass rush, the better the current DB roster gets.
