I don't think people here know what a NT is. We have one of the best rush defenses in the league. We don't need a better NT.

I agree with you guys that pass rush can definitely help the secondary. However, you can see that due to the lack of playmaking Pass Rushers we have, we are blitzing every down. So QBs are getting rid of the ball very quickly like we saw from Big Ben.

Best case would probably be too draft a pass rusher in the first and address CB with one of these veteran guys.

That's just what Dick does. He could have 4 All Pro pass rushers, and he'd still bring additional heat on every down.

As long as Dick is around, we will need to fix the secondary. That is not and never has been his forte. The guys are playing well, his game plan just gets exposed against talented offenses who can take advantage of the holes in coverage caused by all of the extra rushers.

There is room for improvement here. For example, we had a possible option to get Brandon Williams from Baltimore the last offseason and got Sly instead.

I recognize we don't run a typical 3-4 a lot and the DL has a lot of rotation but a better NT/second DT with Casey would help even if we stick with Orakpo/Morgan as the edge rushers.

Stopping the run is half of it. Need to generate more sacks or at least more pressure on a regular. We have 16 in 10 games this year.

You're right, we could had sunk $10M per year and $33M guaranteed into a run stopping NT and had the 26th best run defense, but we didn't and have the 5th best. And he has 0 sacks, and and averages less than 1 per season.

I won't argue that there should be some money spent to help out the pass rush if there's someone worth it. I'm just not for spending money just because it's there.

NT doesn't typically get sacks. They eat up players to allow LB to tackle RB or the edge rushers to get 1 v 1 in effort to get sacks. Hopefully also generate push in the middle.

Yea, the cost would have been higher. And injury or whatever is keeping him out of games would have bit us (he's only played 6) He was just one example of a better NT/DT we could have pursued than Sly.

So what if the entire Ravens run D is not as good as the Titans run D. That's not entirely on one player.

Ravens are #2 against the pass and still #7 in total D yards. They also have 28 sacks.
Titans 21st against the pass, #14 in total D yards and only have 16 sacks.

Seems like there is some middle ground between sacrificing run stopping and improving pass D.

that was a big play, but he actually got behind the corner and the safety came across to push him out I believe. Roethlisberger is not a back up, he's a hall of famer.

The Ravens have a better pass defense, as they should. They sunk a ton of money into safeties over the past couple of years, drafted a CB in the first and have another CB set to take over $30M in cap space over the next 2 seasons.

You also see that their offense is garbage. We have an offense capable of putting a lot of points on the board with anything other than a compete imbecile in control, which is unfortunately what we are stuck with. And our defense is more than capable of keeping games close if our QBs don't decide they want to throw the ball to the other team 4 times.

So our offense is better (at least in terms of talent), run defense is better, and we were clearly the better team when we played against them. The better pass defense doesn't make me clamor over B. Williams. You spend money at one position, it's taken away from others.

Sly and Cyp aren't good additions, but they can also be cut next year with little dead cap.

I'd imagine FA agency is going to be very tightly controlled who are we going to have in contract talks throughout 2018.
