For next season...

I think Mariota can still be what we need.. every QB in the history of football has bad years, but he cannot do it with a coaching staff from the 40s that can't adjust to this decade's type of football

I've preferred watching games with Mariota than VY or Locker.. that's for damn sure

 

Keep Marcus, new staff. Our qb is digressing under a staff that clearly cannot design a game plan around him.

 

Keep the QB and put him in a system that suits his talents. Get rid of the has been staff that is living in the ‘80’s.

 

Pretty much how I feel. I'm far from sold on Flota but he hasn't really had a fair shake with two god awful HCs. The injuries are my biggest thing with him. Call it bad luck or whatever, but it's an issue. He's been playing through them this year but not necessarily looking super impressive while doing it.

The staff, yeah. They suck and most of us knew that from day one. Everyone laughed at eston's thread the other day but it's the truth. This team has not looked like a legit 8-4 team by any stretch. We constantly play down to the competition and we did it again yesterday. This time we weren't lucky enough to pull it out in the end. Sadly, even if we lose out I don't see Mularkey going anywhere.

I'm not even all that impressed with J Rob tbh. Everyone was ready to crown him just because he came from NE and wasn't Ruston Webster. I said it way back then, but I really didn't like that he took the job knowing that a scrub like Mularkey was part of the deal. Came off to me as him just wanting the GM title and not caring that he was tying himself to a proven loser HC in the process. I worry AAS is the real shot caller and I don't think she knows football as much as she thinks she does.

Meh, not impressed with this scrub franchise in general. I haven't been very invested in years and my life is honestly more enjoyable for it. Even this year as we were winning I couldn't really get too excited because it was painfully obvious this is a very average team despite the record.

 

We have QB figured out, guy makes all the throws, gets up when he's knocked down, and can be counted on. Losses make people act weird..

The coaches are calling games like they have Jake Locker at QB... Why?

Every QB gets up when he's knocked down. That's not exactly some elite quality.

 

Keep Mariota. Even if this year has been bad, he earned another year or two off of last year.
With a new staff, maybe try getting a real QB coach too.

 

New staff.....but it's got to be strategic. Blowing up the whole coaching staff isn't good for morale and it generally sets a team back. As much as I personally don't like Mularkey and think he's a mediocre head coach at best, he does seem to have a good report with the players. Keep him for now.

Get a new offensive coordinator and QB coach. People around the league recognize Mariota has some raw skill and great potential. There's got to be some quality coaches that would have some good ideas for how to build an offense around him and be eager to take it on.

Franchise qbs are way too hard to come by in this league to give up on Mariota yet. But, that being said, we should definitely go ahead and draft another 2nd or 3rd round qb. We need to start working on a back up option.
