I think it's moreso the types of plays. I recall one specifically against ARI where he ran to the right for 5-6 yards and took what looked to be a good shot. If you have a QB who's got some sort of injury, I wouldn't be calling any specific run plays. If a play breaks down and it opens up, sure. But with 8 guys in on protection, that's a lot of defenders near the LOS ready to hit him.

I also think they should be utilizing a lot more boot legs. Get him away from defenders, WR time to get open and if he wants to throw it away, go for it. But right now, the only time he seems to evade the pocket is to run and throw it away because the 3 guys running routes are smothered.

i am actually in the opposite camp. we are a better team with mariota running those kinds of plays. when he isnt running them the defense doesnt account for it. think back over the last few years with mariota, when our offense was clicking it included mariota making plays on the move on his own whether designed or when the play breaks down. I realize the injury risk is higher but our team is SO much better when he is doing it.

Oh I agree, the offense is much better when he runs on well designed plays. But when there's that many guys on the line against a stacked box, the OL just hasn't been giving him room. He runs right into a wall and takes a good hit. Call it scheme, play calling or guys not executing, but it hasn't been that effective this year.

    Employ the Whisenhunt maneuver.

Instruct Marcus to run full speed into a linebacker. Then tell the media from the hospital bed it was a called play by Mularkey.

    Boom. Instant fired.
