i know this will probably get moved the Pay Haynesworth Now thread, but i wanted to make sure people got to read this and i could get their opinions on it.

i was watching cold pizza this morning and during their nfl coverage they were talking about the top FAs in this coming offseason. one of the guys said haynesworth might become the highest paid defensive player because of the jump in the salary cap. yes, that's more than the 10 year $80 million deal nate clements got this past offseason.

    so, is he worth it?

NO. He shouldnt be the highest paid d player, but I do think he is deserving of a good contract in line with what other top d tackles have been given. Everyone is wondering about his motivation this year and I'm sure his contract status is part of it, but I also think he is just out to prove what kind of player he is.

don't want to say he is lazy but no doubt he is playing for that fat contract. He will get the money then the following yr go back to his old ways

I say franchise him next year. If he is committed to the off season program and play the same way next year, make him one of the highest paid DLs in the NFL.

and if you compare elite DE contracts to those of elite DT ull notice that elite DE's are paid more

i doubt after only a solid yr (assumin he stays solid) that anyone would even think about payin him that kind of money 60+M......if he has a yr like he is playin than it will be hard to let him go...perhaps franchise tag is best...or they can work out a performance based contract....i see him (if he continues) rakin in a 4-6 yr contract 30-40M dollars

there's a difference between being solid and being unblockable like he has.

I have no problem paying Haynesworth at a level consistent with the highest paid DT in the game currently.

Thus far, Haynesworth has had one absolutely phenomenal season.

    One.

Tag him, and make him prove that he can do it consistently. If he can do it two years in a row, give him a blank check and let him name his price.

If he gets mad about the tag, point out that if he would have started playing like this a couple years ago, it wouldn't be an issue.
