During the Dallas v. Bills game, a Dallas WR caught a pass for 'x' amount of yardage. The Dallas players ran back to the line and quickly centered the ball whereas Romo spiked it killing the play.
At that point, the refs started to reveiw the previous play. Not the play where Dallas spiked it. They reveiwed the pass play.
How can they do that? I thought that once they centered the ball, they killed the other down.
I was told that the call to reveiw the play came from upstairs so-to-speak, but isn't it the Field Judges call?
It would appear that Dallas thought the play was shakey to, that's why they centered the ball, to keep it from being reveiwed. I'm confused.

Since there was less than 2 minutes in the half (game), the review is made by the review official. The official buzzed the ref before the ball was snapped.

yes. they also reset the clock. They added roughly twelve seconds to the game clock since the replay ruling was "pass incomplete". Like SuperTitan said though, the call was buzzed to the feild from upstairs before the ball was snapped and per rule there are no challenges under two minutes... and all replay reviews under two minutes are initiated by the booth.

also... the review is never the Field Judges call. That is a call for the referee to make. He's the "in charge" guy and the only one wearing a white hat. I'm pretty sure about that. Of course, there is a chance I'm mistaken.

If that's true, why didn't the field judge stop the play before they centered it?
Isn't that why they ran up to the line as quick as they did, so he couldn't reveiw it?

  5. Not quite....

They ran up to the ball so quickly because there was very little time left in the game...

There was only 1 second left when he finally spiked the ball actually

They said the review was buzzed to the referee before the ball was spiked

 right. the booth buzzes the referee.

    fitantitans,
also... look at it this way... had the 'boys not been able to get the spike play off and time expired... that review would have saved their bacon. The Cowboys with an expired clock would have actually hoped that the ruling was "incomplete" for they would be allowed at another chance to advance the ball and get a clock stoppage with time left in regulation.

yeah they ran up and spiked the ball that fast to stop the clock, not to stop it from being reviewed. they didn't have any timeouts left.

you are right that once they start another play then the previous play can't be reviewed but the buzz came to review the play before it was spiked (or so they say) but they just didn't realized it or something.

doesn't really matter though. it wasn't a catch and overturning it was the right call anyway.

very true especially in light of the fact that if the catch did hold up they were going to go for the win with the fg try... which they ended up doing anyways... twice. :ha:

those poor Bills. they MUST be cursed.

anyone seen the film Buffalo 66? It's not really about football so much but the Buffalo Bills contribute heavily to the theme. Great movie.

I have a different question about the game.....did anyone else think it was BS that that one ball TO caught along the sideline wasn't called a force out? He caught the ball, had a clear shot at getting both feet down, but got pushed out before he could get down.
