Then Alex, maybe you need to brush up on your reading comprehension skills. Because, my point was very clear. People > animals all day long. Leonard Little is a great example of a player that took the life of a human. There are other examples of players that beat women, etc. but they were not nearly as vilified as Vick. It's about perspective.

But this thread is not about that. It's about Vince and the equally absurd bashing of him for simply telling reporters in a respectful way to move on.

Then there is the difference of opinion. I didn't see his comments as being respectful. But to each his own.

TitanJeff, I'd really like to know what exactly is disrespectful about what Vince said.

"That's enough about the injury, please, I'm begging you,'' Young said. "It's enough. I can't do nothing about it. What do you want me to say? I am saying the same thing over and over, the same question. Y'all are just re-wording it."
    ...

"I can't just tell you I'm playing and then don't play,'' Young said. "That is like me lying not only to my teammates, but to the rest of the people in the world that want to see me play.''

    ...

"It is getting on my nerves, man, because y'all be pumping it up for some reason and it is not that crucial," Young said. "It is a regular game. ... It is not all about Vince Young going against the Texans and I am tired of hearing that.''

Maybe you need to improve your writing skills because clearly you don't do a good job expressing your true opinions.

ShoTym, "The vicious nature in which he's (Vick's) being treated is just as inhumane as the crime he's accused of."

Sorry, but you are dead wrong here. This is exactly the point I took from your post, and the quote above is word for word.

Like I said before, Vick IS NOT being treated more inhumanely than the dogs he electrocuted, hung, drowned, and beat to death.

Avvie makes a great point, as horrible as a drunk driving accident resulting in death is, it's not as if the driver INTENTIONALLY went out to murder someone. Don't get me wrong, the driver deserves punishment. But it's an entirely different kind of wrong from someone who intentially goes out to TORTURE animals while murdering them.

Yea, back to topic - I can understand the point of view that his comments were not necessarily respectful. No need to debate Vick anymore - it's done (shame we only have an image of beating a dead horse). I think I'd agree that there was at least a tinge of disrespect in Vince's comments... Perhaps because I don't particularly respect certain reporters who may have been involved, I saw it as appropriately measured disrespect.

In any case, since Vince can be such a jokester he would probably find it more effective to veil any disrespect to the media in a more humorous tone. Obviously his approach (whatever you happen to think of it) isn't going over the way he'd like.

Both sides of this argument have valid points. Vince Young needs to show more maturity when dealing with the media. Why give writers like Kuharsky any more fuel? He is a talent less writer who just likes to whine and make himself part of the story. The media needs to back off a little as well. They were asking dumb repetitive questions, and Young didn't respond like he should have. But the point still stands; the questions were dumb and had been asked before.

I'm not sure how many people heard Kuharsky on the Wake Up Zone the day after the "incident", but suffice it to say, a caller really put Kuharsky in his place. The caller kept asking Kuharsky why the article he wrote in the weekend paper didn't mention the Titans. It was all about the rest of the league. Kuharsky answered it reasonably well, at first. But the caller continued to ask the same question, in slightly different ways. Kuharsky got more and more irritated. Of course, Mark Howard jumped in to defend Kuharsky, but by the end of the call, the caller made the point of the call clear. Kuharsky had lost his temper because he was being pressed for the same information over and over. It was as if the caller wasn't listening to his answer the first, second or third time. Of course that gets irritating. Frank and Kevin were both laughing their heads off, and Kuharsky at least was man enough to admit that he had been had. I'm not sure if it changed his perspective on the Young incident, I highly doubt it, but at least someone was able to show how easy it is to "lose" your temper in that type of situation.

On a side note, and I hope this doesn't derail the thread even more, what is going through some of your minds? It doesn't matter if a drunk driver didn't mean to kill a human being, they did make the choice to drink and drive which is pretty much one of the dumbest things a person can do. And whether we want to call it murder or an accident is pointless, a HUMAN BEING died as a result of that decision. There is no comparison with anything that Vick did. I'm all for treating animals with decency and love, but they are still animals. And you should never place an animal’s life on the same level as a human being.

I'm certainly not going to argue against how horrible the drunk driving issue is, and how much punishment it deserves.

But what is not being paid attention to about the Vick case, is that he was involved in dog fighting for years, at least six or seven years. He didn't go to a fight one night, he didn't just set up one fight at his house. He was involved in planning, training, betting on, and having dog fights for YEARS. That shows a long term, conscious commitment to the act. That's one of the things that's most frustrating to me. I'm not saying that it's worse than drunk driving, or wife beating, I don't have it in me to argue those things. But in those cases, those people can argue that they made a mistake. Vick really can't. He made his choices over YEARS and YEARS, and showed no remorse at the outset, until it came down that there was no way to deny it. Then he issued an apology that seemed insincere (at least to me). I just can't believe that people will say that he "made a mistake". This was bigger than a mistake, it was a long term choice, something that was repeated over, and over, and over again until he was caught, and couldn't get out of it.

I will admit that I haven't seen a video clip of the exchange. So there could have been some tension in his voice. However, one should remember that Vince was speaking to reporters not coaches. He was not speaking to his superiors. He is a grown man talking to other adults. His words were in response to reporters attempting to corner him into answering a question that he didn't want to give a concrete answer on by re-wording the question. Were their actions respectful? Should they have respected the fact that he didn't want to give a concrete answer about whether he would play Sunday? See, once they crossed that line, the respect that they were owed diminished. He was direct and frank, but in NO WAY disrespectful. If you want examples of disrespect see Dallas Safety Roy Williams. Hell, I've seen coaches get asked a question that they didn't like and respond with "Next Question" Is that respectful?

You guys keep mentioning what Vince should have said. But apparently he gave them the answer he wanted to give and they kept on with the same question. Was there perhaps a better way to handle it? Possibly, but the majority of people on this board or anywhere else would have reacted in a similar way if not worse. If you don't believe me, go ask somebody a question. Then when they answer it, ask it 7 more times except re-word it. See how they respond.
