He had someone on his back in almost every play. Other than he ones he was arm-guarding. He does have great hands though.

there were a lot of others that had nice separation though. I don't mind a guy who can catch in traffic over a DB. That is what we are missing in the red zone right now. Vince throws a good fade, but we don't have anyone who can go up and get it. Sweed could be a good weapon in the red zone.

i'm also kind of confused because it seemed in most of the throws downfield he had separation from the cornerback. Most of them were in double coverage. There aren't many receivers who can get double covered and get separation from the safety and cb. You definitely can't say us taking him would be a gamble. Right now he's projected top 15 so if he makes it to our pick it would be considered a steal, not a gamble.

I agree there. I don't know. Guess I'm just hard to budge because the guy didn't do much compared to the other big names coming out this year.

I agree that he didn't do as much as the other big names, but like I posted earlier, TEXAS spread the ball to alot of different targets. Texas has a good problem in that, they have alot of players, that they have to find ways to get the ball to.

Re-looking at your highlight video you posted, I think what makes Sweed appear to be slow, is he as great ability to adjust to balls that are in the air. Slowing his stride, timing jumps, I saw quite a few passes that if they were thrown a bit further, would have easily been 6.
Like utdtitans said, tons of catches were in double coverage, in the Big 12 DC's game-planned to keep the ball out of sweeds hands, that's why so many other recievers had lots of catches. One on One, he is hard to cover.

Back to the video. Keep in mind if you see Vince he was a sophmore.

1st two catches, he blew past the DB's had to almost totally turn around to make catches.
3rd catch, totally beat the corner, saftey help over the top.
4th sick catch in corner of the endzone.
5th catch two steps away from the defender
6th - Redzone and used his body to put the DB in his back pocket, DB had to recover, but had good enough separation.
    7th Beat DB, saftey help
8th Bad throw could have been an interception, he did a good job of getting handsy with the DB, could have been a flag.
    9th Beat DB, Safety help
    10th - atleast 2 yards of separation
11th - good slant route, put DB in his back pocket.
12th - A wide reciever to wide reciever pass across field, I think he did an excellent job of adjusting to the ball, notice (double coverage, on a reverse)
13th was caught at the line of scrimage.
14th Used his hands to get separation, but I have the feeling he still could have outran the DB.
    15th totally outran the DB.

I think this video has a few more catches, that display his ability to adjust to balls, and show how he can run past people.

I think you worry too much about college level production. I think you need a balance between college production and measurables. Sweed is strong in both more so than any other player out there right now. Is he what the Titans need? That is a different question all together, I think we need a little speedster that will force the safeties to play back a couple extra yards, I don't think Sweed is that type of player.

Also in that video look at the names of some of the guys who were covering him those were some damn good DBs including guys like Reggie Smith DJ Wolfe & Marcus Walker of Oklahoma, Terrence Wheatley from Colorado, trae Williams & Mike Jenkins from South Florida, Zack bowman from Nebraska, martel van zant from Okie Lite, Donte Whitner and Nate Salley from Ohio State. This list doesn't include all the Texas DBs that he had to face every day in practice at Texas including: Nate Vasher, Aaron Ross, Mike Griffin, Mike Huff, Ced Griffin, and Tarrell Brown. Infact in 2k5 Texas had 6 dbs on campus that would end up as a 1st 2nd or 3rd round NFL draft pick.

The point to all this is he has had to cut his teeth since his freshmen year against NFL quality DBs.

I wouldn't argue with taking Hardy, he is big fast and strong as an ox, but the level of competition he faced in the big 10 is a bit low. Face facts the Big 10 is a very slow conference and his stats are a bit inflated by this fact.

Doesn't mean he won't be great only I see him as the exact opposite of Sweed he was a big fish in a little pond and that inflated his numbers more so than any of the other receivers out there.

Nah. Not even close. There are other guys in the draft that doubled his production, are just as fast, have just as good hands, etc.

I think you put to much emphasis on speed and aren't looking at him as a receiver. T.O.'s one of the best receivers in the league and sweed is faster and has better hands. You should judge guy based on how good of a receiver you think he can be.
