SUMMARY: Titans Defensive line coach Jim Washburn liked the enthusiasm he saw at the rookie practive this weekend. "I'm really excited because they're real eager, they're fun, small-school guys and they're really into it right now," Washburn said. "Of course this is day one, practice one." Washburn believes second-round pick Jason Jones will stay at DT though can also work outside. "He can be OK out there, but what he is is an inside player," Washburn said. "He weighs 273 or something like that and that hasn't been an issue because he was strong against the run. He was sort of unusually strong. I'm not sure, I've just got to see." As for fourth-rounder William Hayes, Washburn things he'll be special. "I just like him," Washburn said. "He can fly. Really strong. … He's going to be overwhelmed. This isn't FAMU. But you know something, he's got unique physical qualities. Everybody thought, 'Wow, what a reach.' They had no clue."

Sounds like Hayes is going to be a project, who might end up on the practice squad this year, but should be a starter within two years.

no way he goes on the practice squad. he has to clear waivers to do that and i'm sure someone would pick him up.

Hayes will get playing time. LaBoy did, and he struggled a lot before his rookie year. Even if it's just as a 3rd and long pass rusher, that can't be too big of a transition if he has the type of athleticism they say he does.

Interesting that Wash thinks of Jones as a DT. Maybe they want him as more than a pass rushing DT. He says he plays strong for his size....I think Tony Brown does as well. Don't expect either to handle a double team like big Al, but maybe one on one he's similar to Brown, but with room to grow bigger. He looks to have more athleticism than Brown to go outside though.

I'm not really surprised about Jones at DT. He plays both DE/DT and watching film of him he might be better at DT. This may just be 1 year though depending on Kearse.

that's the same thing we said about Jacob Ford, he'll be situational, but realisticly, he'll never be seen and maybe a practice-squader.

ford will never be seen because he tore his achillies. for a speed rusher without much bulk, that injury was pretty devastating.
