If only Haynesworth was able to sign a contract right now.

MR could respond with a put up or shut up deal. We'll trade for 'this' WR if you sign a contract for 'X' amount.

This season is going to be pivotal for our future for the possibility of free agents wanting to come to Nashville as well as keeping some of our own leaders around. I think Big Al is right on, with a single free agent move, we put ourselves in a huge position to win a Superbowl NOW.

And, someone like Roy Williams or whoever is brought in will come off a team with no chance at winning anything this season or anytime in the near future with an opportunity to be completely reborn.

It is a win-win for everyone.
-1. Lions, Bengals, Rams (or whoever) gives up a player on a contract year who will likely not stick around anyways. They get something in return for their guy during a season where they have a near 0% chance of winning anything.

-2. Roy Williams, Chad, or Holt (or whoever) gets a chance to win NOW and improve a Superbowl calibers team in the position they need it most.

-3. Titans obviously benefit in getting a player that can contribute NOW, maybe get a ring NOW, and potentially be the difference in hosting a team like Baltimore and not having enough offensive firepower in case our defense makes a single mistake, and getting up 14-0 on a team that like us has a tough time coming back from a 2-score deficit.

If there has EVER been a time to bring in someone, it is NOW. If we could take a Roy Williams clone as our 2nd round draft pick next year, would we take him? I believe that answer is yes. And as an added benefit we get him 1/2 season in advance.

Good post. I agree 100% as I think most will. It would be great to turn on the T.V and see ............ Tennessee Titans trade for ( insert WR ) from the ( insert team name ) for a second round draft pick in the 09 draft.:lol:

But to be realistic how would this effect our cap? With signing Roos, Stewart, Finnegan and the looming blockbuster with Albert, would getting a big name reciever with a big time contract even be a possibility? I mean where would it cost us on this team? I doubt we could make this move without losing something somewhere on the backend. Does anyone know the cap side?

I don't think Finnegan got that big of an extension, neither did Stewart.

Stewart got a six-year contract extension worth $38.9 million with $10 million in guaranteed money and Finnegan $17 million over the next four seasons, and it includes roughly $8.5 million in guaranteed money.

And depending on Finnegan's play in 08, that contract may need to be renegotiated.

Anyway all I am saying is we have spent a bit of money ..... and no I don't know anything about our cap room and such ...... but it just seems unlikely we could get a WR without losing something .... I may be wrong.

I think it's important to look at our team from another team's perspective (our opponents). I can't imagine any team that would *want* us to go after a top tier receiver. From any other AFC contender's point of view, I believe that would be their worst nightmare if someone like Torry Holt or Roy Williams stepped out on the field in a Titans uniform to balance our running game and defense. And I don't blame them.

And it's not like Haynesworth is just a good defensive player as he was several years ago. He is roundly considered perhaps the best defensive player in the NFL at the moment. So he should be able to say something, especially when we all know it's true.

I personally think Roy Williams is our best chance. I don't see Arizona getting rid of Boldin when they could realistically win the west and get a playoff spot. They will need all the weapons they can get should they actually make the playoffs.

If you havent noticed, teams have started to prepare for the Chris Johnson running attack. Compare his first couple of games to his last couple. If we could get a decent receiver, and sketch up a few plays to where CJ is lining up as a wideout (Much like reggie bush does) as a distraction, not only would it let LenDale get more touches and more YPC, it may be too much for a defense to handle, espicially if they had another receiver to worry about.

We've made several big plays on defense this year, but only a couple big plays on offense.

I'm probably wrong, so flame me all you want.

Yeah, lets play a two QB system, I'm sure that would work out brilliantly.

I have more faith in Jeff Fisher and MR to led my team then AH.

These are very good points, but they ignore the second major problem of this trade (the first is working out trade value, but I think that could be done), which is the cap. We would have to get a deal worked out with whoever we traded for, and I don't think any of the people being talked about would take anything other than a lot of money.

Yes, we still have some money to spend, but we also have a lot of players coming up over the next two years that will cost us significant money if we want to keep them. I've mentioned in other threads that first we'll have to make decisions on Albert/Keith/Vince, in that order, over the next season and a half. Those are ALL big contracts. The next season we have to deal with Hope, KVB, Thornton, which will probably all be difficult to keep. Not to mention smaller players like Scaife, B. Jones, and Fuller, who we need to decide on.

Bringing in a top name WR shortens our window a little bit by placing more pressure on the cap. It doesn't matter who wants to come here if we can't afford them. Maybe we could pull in Roy Williams, and keep Albert and Vince, but we'd lose Bulluck. If we managed to squeeze in all four, then we're losing a bunch of vets the next year.

They're tough choices all the way around, and they require a little more knowledge and experience than any of us have (the fact that no one can come up with better salary cap analysis is pretty telling), and I'm not sure what's best. I'm really interested to see what happens, but I don't think this trade will happen, and I think it's probably for the best for our three year outlook.
