I guarantee he'll be coaching somewhere.
AH is a smart guy... and he's not afraid to speak his mind. Worst case scenario is that he'll be a defensive Line coach 12 or 15 years from now.

As far as injury settlements, there have been numerous accounts of NFL players not having enough money to survive their medical care plus life expenses. There has been outside the line episodes done on the very topic including many broken families as a result.

It's documented that NFL players generally die much younger than the average American.

I think knowing those facts, it is reasonable to want to enjoy life, and not work full-time post a physically stressful NFL career.

As far as the millions he has now, the old saying goes "the more toys you have, the more break." I'm sure his home expenses etc, are more than most of ours that post here. And it's not realistic to say "Oh he could live in 150k home like me.

I guess, my opinion, is that Al has established himself as one of the top 3 defensive players in all of professional football. You can say what's the difference in a few million, but honestly, I understand his point of view of making EVERY LAST dollar he can while playing this sport. Especially while being one of the best at it.

ALSO, consider how the Titans treat their players. Why would Albert show preferential treatment to Tennessee considering that? Tennessee would throw Albert out as trash the way they have former players if it suited the franchise needs. So I'm not sure I would show tremendous loyalty if I was in Albert's position.

I feel like a flip-flopper in my own mind on this issue. It's so much invested money in one player, but he has played at a deserving level.

Personally, I'm amazed at the transformation AH has gone through as a player. I lean towards a full believer, I think he really is motivated to end up in the HoF and do as much as possible to redeem his past mistakes. Given our cap status, I'd rather him return at an incredibly high cost, than trust the DT position to our other players.

I will say having a new DC gives me at least some optimism that we won't be so totally reliant on AH regarding our defense.

Well whatever you do don't let Riverman catch wind of this...otherwise he'll dissect and misinterpret every post you make on this thread!

And BTW that's a very good point, maybe if we blitz more then 10% of the time then we can actually get pressure from someone who's....get this.....not a lineman?!@?@!?!?!?@@?!!!?! I know that may seem impossible and absurd to many Jim Schwartz defense watchers, but there is such a thing as the blitz, and utilizing it just sometimes may take some pressure off of our linemen

I agree 100%. I helped train two All Pro players for careers after football. They both had very successful life's after football. Their football careers opened doors for them and they wisely took advantage.

Maybe it's smart to let him walk?

I know in baseball this year, many players rejected extensions with their current teams for reasonable money then realized that the market wasn't what they expected because of the recession. Some of those player accepted much smaller contracts (money and years) from other teams. I don't know to what extent, if any, that'll hold true in the NFL, but it's worth keeping in mind.

Look at the bigger picture Dave.

If we re-sign him for $10mil+ per year he has to perform like a pro bowler every year of that contract.

Just by earning that kind of money it means we will be filling one roster spot with a rookie instead of a vet.Should we have a bad season or Albert goes back to his old lazy ways then things will get heated in the locker room.He could ruin our team chemistry.

He deserves to be paid as the best DT in football. He doesn't deserve to be paid as the best Defensive Lineman in football.

I want us to sign him but I'd rather he walk if it means we get to keep other key players and also upgrade at WR.

Our defensive scheme we'll have under a new DC will likely be more aggressive.Alberts role wouldn't necessarily be as pivotal as it is now under a different scheme.
