It's hard for me to understand why any poster or Titan fan thinks Chris Simms is a better alternative to Vince Young.

Chris Simms has really never been successful. His college stats are not great. Especially considering he came from Texas during some of their peak years, with loads of talent surrounding him. Vince's best year at Texas is better than any year for Chris Simms.

Add to that, his pro career is nothing. I have no reason to believe that a QB that threw for 2000 yards 10tds and 7ints, 3 years ago, is somehow going to turn into this hidden gem and be a star for the Titans.

I'd really like to hear valid reasons why anyone thinks Simms will ever be worth a damn as a starter. My guess is most posters lean towards Simms because of name recognition alone. That, or you are a complete believer in what Fisher says, which I can't fathom either since Fisher has made so many false statements about the team over the years.

How far down has vince traveled that we are debating his attributes vs simms. Vince a 3rd pick vs simms a guy we got for nothing and actually released and resigned.

For the record simms is arguably the 4th best QB in Texas history. He is in the top 3 in numerous categories and is third in best winning percentage.

Colt mccoy set the Texas record for highest passing for a season. Who is #2? Chris simms.

Simms started 10 games in 2005 and his team won 6 of them. Cadillac williams was at best average in those 10 games. Yes galloway was a thousand yard Wr but who else was there to throw to? Williams was no threat as a receiver and no other receiver TE, RB or WR had over 400 yards.

Simms has as much or more "potential" than VY. I don't believe Simms was ever fully developed by Gruden-that just isn't what Gruden does w/ QB's.

So far this year, I have seen Simms extremely attentive to detail on the sidelines and his arm is better than VY's. I haven't seen him call audibles, so I don't know yet what he has between the ears regarding reading D's.

I really hope we keep him because I see alot of upside on him. I'd like to see a fierce open competition this TC between VY and him. I think Simms would beat Vince with his ability to read D's and his arm.

I like how some of you guys are hailing simms as a possible starting qb for us. If vince young doesn't get injured this guy isn't even in the nfl this year but now you guys think he can start for us. He does not have more potential than vince young and to think that is foolish. He was drafted in the 3rd round after staying 4 years at college. Vince was drafted 3rd overall after 3 years of college. Anyone who actually watched simms at texas knew he would never amount to anything. He can throw the ball deep but that's about it.

I also like how some of you are saying "well if he couldn't start phil simms wouldn't have him here" Like phil simms has some amazing pull around all of the nfl and gets to pick where his son plays. Maybe phil let him come here because he wasn't on a team at all and he'd rather be in the nfl then sitting at home.

at least with Chris Simms back at QB I don't have to hold my breath and hope the ball doesn't get thrown into triple coverage every single freakin' time!

call me what you will, but VY is a bust!

Well, to me it is ludicrous and it is no comparison. Vince has accomplished much more than Simms in both college and pro.

Like I said, to me, there is no comparison.

Thanks for bringing up some good counterpoints.

The Texas history, I would counter that Simms Texas teams were STACKED with talent. Also, consider the level of competition. Simms was at a top tier program, so he was fortunate to have better talent vs. worse talent in probably 75% of his college games.

And college team records could be misleading. For example, Arian Foster was close to becoming the all-time leading rusher for Tennessee this last season. But he's also crazy crucial fumble prone and nowhere near the ability of several backs that came before him. I don't even think he'd be in my top15 Rbs for UT of all time, yet he was almost the leading rusher.

I still can't understand why people are big believers in Simms, when all he did was throw 10Tds and 2000 yards what will be 4 seasons ago with the Bucs. Sure it was one mediocre year. But that hardly impresses me enough to want him as a Titans starter, or think he is any kind of solution.

I just know that Simms didn't quit on a team like Young did because he got his feelings hurt . That speaks volumes to me. If it happens once it will happen again. Young isn't nor will he ever be mentally tough enough for the NFL or should I say the NFL fans. That is my opinion and personally I don't care if anyone likes it or not :moon2:

Fair enough. I hereby hail that Vince Young is also a possible starting qb for us.

Chris Simms was actively working out for other teams (Chiefs for one) when we signed him. He would have been on another team.

And I think you are mistaken if you don't a former NFL QB and current national media #1 broadcaster is privileged to information the average fan is not and has some influence recommending his son where he should go.
