The Titans and Britt will be under a lot of pressure for this pick. There will be high expectations. Not saying its a bad pick but WR has been a need for a long time and with them passing up on a Boldin trade with the first round and going draft instead he better produce.....soon!

Rutgers fan blogger comments (made back in December)

I think it’s a near certainty that Kenny Britt is going to declare for the NFL Draft in January.

I say this having had the pleasure of watching him develop on the banks during the past three seasons. Britt, quite simply, is a monster on the field. I don’t like throwing that level of hyperbole around, but it’s absolutely fitting in this case.

Physically, Britt looks the part. He is listed at 6′4 and 215 lbs on the team’s official roster, and those numbers don’t appear to be exaggerated. He is muscular, and has a lanky frame that reminds me of the NFL’s Plaxico Burress. Speed-wise, I’d estimate Britt to be somewhere in the 4.5 range or so on the field, with good acceleration and leaping ability. He has decent-to-good hands, which some observers have incorrectly knocked due to poor play by quarterback Mike Teel at points.

I think it’s Britt’s style of play that is the real attraction. He’s a menacing figure at the line of scrimmage. What 5′9, 180 lbs when soaking wet CB wants to play bump and run against him? The only CBs who have fared well against Britt during the past few years were physical man corners like Mike Mickens and Mike Jenkins. On the field, Britt is a bull in a china shop. He knows that he’s a load to cover downfield, and is sure to take full advantage of it. Britt’s game really brings to mind an early Keyshawn Johnson, another downfield threat not afraid to throw impose his will on defenders. He’ll go after defensive backs and is not afraid to get his hands dirty.

My favorite part of Britt’s game, one that I think that people who don’t follow Rutgers football don’t properly appreciate, is that he’s absolutely incredible at catching “bad” throws. Kenny Britt has bailed out Mike Teel on errant bombs down the sideline more times than I can count. Britt has a long wingspan, big hands, a good vertical leap, and most importantly, great field awareness. Combined with his size and ability to get open downfield, it all adds up to a receiver who can bail out his quarterback time and time again. That’s an asset that should not be discounted.

I understand that the “consensus” right now in the football scouting community is that Britt is approximately a second round pick. 2009 is considered to have a very deep junior class at wide receiver. However, it is my belief that, solely based on his play on the field, Britt not only warrants a first-round selection in the upcoming draft; but he should go quite early in the first round. Britt is overlooked a bit playing for a team that went 7-5 this year and didn’t really have its bearings together early in the season. He has done nothing but produce since emerging late in 2006. Unlike many of the other big name receivers, Britt plays in a pro-style scheme that does not inflate his production. Indeed, Britt has been the frequent target of opposing defenses’ attention in 2008. Once NFL Scouts sit down and take a look at his game tape, he is going to warrant a first round grade.

What could be a potential red flag for Britt? It is not exactly a secret that he (along with tackle Anthony Davis) was suspended for the Norfolk State game this year for a team rules violation. During his first fall camp as a freshman, Britt reportedly was not cleared by the NCAA clearinghouse to play until the 2006 season had nearly started.

    There’s one other thing:
Was suspended for one game this season for violating team rules, is not a great practice player and comes from a high-maintenance, big-ego, emotional superstar mold. Will make some easy drops and needs to become a more consistent catcher, yet when Britt wants to turn it on like he did against West Virginia and when matched up against Connecticut CB Darius Butler, he has shown he can be dominant. A long-strider who eats ground quickly, Britt is big, exceptionally strong and physical and can power off the line and beat the jam. He is built to play a big man’s game and has a wide catching radius. Looks every bit the part and has been the one bright spot on an average offense. Has the physical skill set to be a better pro than college player.

Fisher Ready to Get Britt Quickly in the Mix

SUMMARY: Coach Jeff Fisher says he plans on getting the Titans first-round pick in the mix as soon as possible. "We are very, very excited about Kenny," Fisher said. "He is a big strong, physical receiver who can get out of cuts and make catches. We think he comes in and he helps us. As far as where he fits in, we are going to try and get him on the field as fast as we can and have him catch passes for us and make big plays for us. We feel like he is what we have been missing in our passing game." Britt, who had 178 catches for 3,043 yards and 17 touchdowns in his three-season career at Rutgers is ready to step up to the challenge. "They want me to come in there and do my best," Britt said. "I’d like to have as big as impact as possible. I just want to do whatever I can for the team. I am a big physical receiver with great hands. My game is just to come play football. I know God chose me for a team and God chose me to be with the best team possible with good people around me."

As a Titans and Rutgers fan, I love the pick. Having watched Kenny for the past three years, I think he has all the makings of being a #1 wide receiver in the NFL. Here's what you're getting with Kenny:

He's a big, physical receiver that's nearly impossible to jam at the line. He had had the second most reps for a WR on the bench press at the combine with 23. He'll have a field day if he's lined up with a small corner. He's built like a rock and is tough after the catch. He doesn't get his YAC yards with quick cuts and quick acceleration like a Maclin or Harvin; rather, he just runs over people. I still remember his freshman year, in the Texas Bowl against Kansas State, it literally took about 5 KSU defenders to tackle him after a catch. Smaller defenders just bounce off of him. He's a very good blocker, something that will obviously help the Titans and CJ in the run game.

He's a very good route runner and isn't afraid to go over the middle. He's not super fast, but he's fast enough. At 6'3", his unofficial 40 at the combine was 4.49, I believe, and he ran a 4.45 or so at the Rutgers pro day. His solid route-running offsets his non-4.40 speed, thereby allowing him to gain separation downfield.

His hands are okay. Earlier in the year, he had some drops, but from the Pitt game onward, he basically caught anything thrown his way. Some of his drops were due in part to Mike Teel's early struggles at quarterback. He does tend to catch with his body on some plays, but he's gotten progressively better at using his hands and attacking the ball. He did well in "the gauntlet" at the combine.

As far as the whole "attitude" issue goes, it's been completely overblown by the media. He isn't a "cancer" or anything like that. So don't worry about him poisoning the locker-room because I can guarantee you it won't happen. He's not that type of guy. He never hangs out with the wrong people (in fact, he lived with his uncle, who is a reverend, last year) and won't get into off the field issues. He always has a smile on his face. He's very confident in his abilities (he's already said he thinks he can be rookie of the year). The Morgan State game suspension was for something he and another player did last spring. What they actually did was never disclosed, but we've heard everything from smoking pot to skipping a class. Nevertheless, it's nothing to worry about. After he was suspended, Britt didn't pout or complain like a "diva" would. Instead, he re-focused himself and concentrated on being the best player he can be. His production after the Morgan State game attests to that.

In closing, I think you all should read this article on Kenny. It should give you an idea of the type of young man he is. I really think you'll be happy with him. And I'll just sign off with this pic from his pro day:

    So he doesn't use TelePrompTers?

I was pretty underwhelmed with the pick. I thought I would be pumped for a WR in the first, but the whole Beenie Wells fiasco got me thinking we were going to get Boldin for our second and Lendale. I do think Britt was a smart pick, though. He's a great route runner and has the size. Maybe, he'll turn out to be a combination of Jerry Rice and Larry Fitzgerald.

Yeah, not a lot of our picks will go on the All-Interview team. Pacman, Vince, CJ, and now Kenny Britt. But i'm quickly starting to love this pick. I was ok with it at first, but now i'm pretty excited.
