JR is an excellent pickup. I was stoked when I heard we got him. I follow Michigan State sports and I never woulda thought we woulda got him.

Thanks for the insight. I agree with a previous poster that I'd love for him to wow the Titans enough that he makes letting go/trading Lendale in the off-season an easy decision!

Come on Ringer...show us what ya got!

I loved the Ringer pick when I saw it. It was the only pick I celebrated with a cheer. Ringer will do us right, if he can keep his knees healthy.

But LenWhale is gonna break out this year. If he does come in 15 pounds less then what he was at when the season ended (like he said he would); there is no doubt in my mind that CJ and White can both have 1,000 yard seasons.

White just has to mature..he's still working on that...but once he truly becomes a NFL player and knows how to keep his body in the best shape for the best football league on the planet then there no doubt in my mind he can keep the TD's coming like he did at USC. Yes a lot of his TD's were goal line this year...but he does have wheels for a big man..he just needs to be quicker out of the backfield...hit the first hole or make the hole if there is none. He can't be dancin back there.

The coaches have said they want to get CJ more involved with the offense and get him more touches. I think Lendale's role will be reduced to falling forward 1 foot into the endzone, basically the same as last year. His TD's may be there but I dunno about a 1,000 yeard season. Don't get me wrong, I'd be pleasantly suprised, but I just don't see it.

Yeah great move run your 200 lb feature back into the ground and limit his career. Just like what we did with eddie.

What i get from those stats is that this is a guy with some mileage on him already. Interesting that there was a 2.5 yard per carry difference in the wrong direction between his freshman year and senior year.

FYI mike hart the Michigan back had similar numbers and was a similar big ten workhorse and he fell about as far in the draft. After one year of looking at him the colts were so impressed they went RB in rd one this year. What does ringer have that hart does not?

just saying what I've heard, no need to jump all over me. I know what happened with eddie and I hear what you're saying. however, running backs only last so long at a high level in the NFL anyway and you don't pay them millions and millions of dollars to not give them the football. Once a back hits 30, it's only downhill from there whether they've had 100 carries a season or 400. talking about "mileage" as if these guys are 1992 toyotas, they are humans and it only takes one wrong hit on any given play to take a rookie or a 10 year vet out.

You should make the comparison between his junior and senior seasons, not his freshman and senior seasons. His freshman year he got a lot less carries and he was still under the radar. His junior year, he had a lot more carries and he was a bigger part of the offense, and the opponents gameplanned for him. He was at 5.9 YPC on 245 carries...not too shabby. The more carries you get in a season, the lower your average is going to be. JR was the every down back this past season. He would get the goaline plays and all the 2nd/3rd/4th down and short plays. The year before, we had a 255 lb senior running back named Jehuu Caulcrick. He was the short down "bruiser" back, and he picked up most of the rushing touchdowns, and had a low YPC. This year Javon had to do everything, so his YPC suffered, but at the same time he had 22 touchdowns. He had solid "all purpose" yards too.

Mike Hart and JR might've had similar numbers, but Mike Hart had a couple things that Javon Ringer didn't. Mike Hart played at Michigan who generally recruits better athletes (at MSU we hope we're starting to tip the recruiting scales a little bit). Michigan generally gets the big name recruits, even though their highly ranked recruiting classes haven't necessarily translated into BCS success. But they recruit nationally and they can get some of the big, quick hoss offensive linemen. Michigan is usually pretty strong in the trenches on both sides....Javon never had an offensive line as consistently good as what they had at Michigan (maybe this year, 2008 was an exception because Michigan had the worst season in their 129 year history - thanks Rich Rodriguez!).

Mike Hart's Michigan teams generally had much better passing attacks and so Hart had a lot of help. Javon's senior year, he was the entire offense and everybody knew it. Teams didn't have much respect for MSU's passing game (and rightfully so), so they would throw 8 or 9 guys in the box. I couldn't understand why our coaching staff didn't mix things up more. I guess they weren't very confident in the passing game (or the other running backs) either. Ringer was way overused in his senior year, bottom line. But next season on the Titans, even if he only gets a few carries, I think they'll be good carries. He wont have to carry the whole load anymore and he'll be under the radar again, and playing on a team with a superior offensive line. I think it could be a good situation for him.

Personally, I think Javon is much stronger than Mike Hart, and he's just a different style of runner and a superior athlete. Physically and style wise, I think he's a better fit for the NFL. They may be similar in size, but Javon just has more power, and plays a lot bigger than Mike Hart. Pound for pound, Ringer is a pretty impressive athlete. I mentioned before that he is a black belt in karate, he can bench 400 and he can squat over 600 lbs, and it shows if you watch him play. He doesn't go down easily and he squeezes every single yard he can from a play. He always falls forward. He's just a smart player, and he's just tough as nails. But the main thing is his attitude. He's a class act with great intangibles, about as good as you can get. In practices, he'll run 50 yard sprints between plays. He works so hard and I think he has the talent to compete if he can keep himself healthy. I'm confident that he'll give himself the best possible chance of making the team and getting some touches.

It's really hard to predict talent going from college to the NFL. I know it's possible that Ringer may not ever get a single touch in the NFL. Knowing how determined and talented he is though, I doubt that will be the case. Worst case scenario, I think he sticks around as 2nd or 3rd stringer in the league for a while, barring injury. However it turns out, I just wish the guy good luck and I'm glad he made it this far because he deserves everything he gets. I hope he gets a lot further. He got drafted by a really good team, with a lot of depth at RB, so hopefully he can learn from the older guys his first year and rest his body a little bit. Maybe he could contribute to special teams or maybe catch the ball out of the backfield once in a while. He never really got too much attention for catching the ball, but I think he has good hands and maybe he can develop and contribute in that area too.
