When I played High School basketball, my best was right at 6:30 which isn't terribly fast for a basketball player but isnt bad for a Power Forward.

Ive had a lingering ankle injury for the past 6 months and haven't been able to do much running. If I was a betting man, I'd say I could do it in under 8 mins. Given that I've put in 40lbs since HS. :(

I have tried many different shoes. I don't think asics can be beat for my money.

I can run a mile anywhere from 6:00 to 9:00 depending how excited I am about it.

Or you could be like Marvin Hagler and say running shoes are for pansies, and run in Army issue boots. I've tried it, makes your footspeed quick as hell once you get out of them.

Jesse, 1st of all, congrats on wanting to get into shape!

Sounds like you're doing fine. Not every one is natural at running. It takes time and a lot of dedication, and its even harder when you're out of shape.

When I was at Airborne school, the fastest I ran a mile was 7:05. I finished the two mile run in 14:35, so I obviously started running out of gas on the 2nd mile.

When I 1st started running, I was probably about where you are now. You'll get there in time.

If I were to time myself now, I'd probably do about a 11-12 minute mile. I'm in the worst shape I've ever been in currently, so I need to get out there and run myself.

The fastest I've ever seen was at basic training. This guy ran a mile in 5 minutes and finished his two mile well under 11 minutes. He made it look easy too.

Actually, I like Avia the best. I've tried different New Balance, Nike, Addidas and nothing feels as comfy to me as the Avia.

Based on my current 5 km time (~22 mins) I should do 1 mile in about 7 mins. If I only run 1 mile I could probably shave off 30 secs or so, maybe more on a treadmill I don't know...

My friends and I walked a mile in 13:28 so I'm not sure how you could manage to end up at 13 by running.

I just ran two miles outside in this 95 degree hell in under 15 mins. I almost fainted, but I managed.

My best time ever was in freshman year of high school... a mile in 6:12. My best in the past year or so has been 6:58.
