Yea I don't agree with Whitlock here. None of us know the situation with Steve and this girl so don't judge him. Am I proud to see him have an affair? No of course not, but do I know the situation of his married life? No. So I can't judge him for doing something not illegal until I know every detail. Again, I'm not condoning what he did but I wont condemn him for it. I'm not a judge nor am I perfect. And as stupid and obvious as this will sound, I'm sure Steve would take it back if he could, so it's not like he was asking for it or deserving of it.

All I know of Steve for sure is what I saw on the field so that's how I'm going to remember him. I didn't know him as a Dad, Uncle, or friend, only a player so why would I remember him as an adulterer?

I disagree in the sense that this article - like the news sports media right now - is going, "yeah he's a great guy, but this is the reality of who the guy was behind the curtain, etc." or a "see, he wasn't really that/ great of a guy"

I like some of these better:
    http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/07/06/steve-mcnairs-tragic-end-shouldnt-tarnish-his-legacy

    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=hill/090706&sportCat=nfl

they go more along the lines of how - while it is so easy to remember what a person did recently, you really have to look at them as a whole when you're viewing their lives. Recent circumstances always make it easy to judge/forget the man despite how he really was as a whole.

Whitlock nails being a tool... again... He's a "shock jock" writer oh wait wrong word, writer sounds too professional, blogger better fits his persona. He writes stuff that he knows will grab attention and rub people the wrong way. That article has truths in it, however just the way he puts things together makes you want to punch him in the face.

Rape didn't tarnish Kobe's name because the charge was a joke. If adultery tarnishes a famous person's life, then we might as well stop caring right now.

Let me put it this way. Adultery wouldn't tarnish Pacman or insert scumbag name here's life. It does tarnish someone with the reputation of being a family man. Depends on the context.

Really? McNair cheated? Slept around? What famous athlete hasn't?

And really, why should we care? I looked up to the guy because he played football and did it with heart. If I wanted to look up to a guy whose first priority was fidelity, I'd admire the pope.

The whole preception Whitlock spouted that he abandoned his Kids seems was reaching. I wish he would mention how he knew he abandoned his children, other than dying, which to my knowledge, was not something Mac signed up for. Whitlock has no idea how much time he and his kids spent together, what they did as a family, nor the condition of his relationship with his wife, quite frankly, none of us do. That is why articles/blogs like this are asinine. He was reaching and just trying to find an alternative view to look at, only thing is...wrong person. He could have done that with someone else, but from accounts of his teammates and friends that spoke of him over the years, Mac was a good dude, community wise & family wise. I do agree, his kids are victims, but let's not forget wrong or right for his actions, Mac was THE MAIN VICTIM, a victim of murder.

As stated above, Steve had been seeing this girl for several months, taken her on trips, was at her apt or his rented one quite a bit. A celebrities personal life is none of our bussiness. I have so much symathy for his children and family, but we dont know if he and his wife were seperated, only staying married for the children etc. And we dont need to now those things, they ARE personal. What did affect us, and was our bussiness was his performance as a Titans/Raven, his visibility and community service in and around Nashville. His personal life has no bearing on how I will remember than man. I dont want my celebrities to be perfect, I want them to have flaws like we all do, makes them all the more human and able for us to associate with them. If it were not for mistakes, we would never learn. The man made mistakes in his personal life, but he had a hell of a carrier and personality that I followed for years, and now that he has gone he can do nothing on the field/community to tarnish that. He could have done alot worse things than got a DUI or two, and had one or several affairs in his lifetime.
