Judging by pre season, teams are game planning to stop the run and force Collins to pass. I could see this carrying over into the regular season starting with the Steelers.

CJ seems to be top priority on the defense list. Mike is gonna have to use the first few weeks airing it out to Nate,Gage,Bo,Jared and Britt. We gonna have to back the defenses off CJ or it could be a long season for him. We need to start week 1 coming out passing a lot. Steelers will be expecting the run game. Which we will prob try to do first but i think it would be better to come out slinging it and getting the defenses mind set away from CJ.

What you guys think? Will Cj have the same success as last season if we dont improve the passing game?

Defenses are obviously going to be much more focused on CJ than they were at the beginning of his rookie year. They now know how dangerous he is, and with a full season's worth of game film on him, they can scout his tendencies and do some gameplanning for him.

That said, scouting and gameplanning can only take you so far. You also have to consider the talent of the defensive players, and their ability to execute their assignments. Even if a team develops the perfect gameplan for stopping him, one player making one mistake or one wrong step could result in CJ taking one to the house. And as explosive as CJ is, that's all it would take.....one small mistake.

What concerns me more than anything is the O-line's inability to get any kind of push up front, and the number of defenders who are getting into the backfield and breaking up plays. No runner can be effective when he's getting hit as soon as he gets the ball......which is exactly what has happened to CJ several times in the past couple weeks. (Heck, even on Ringer's long TD run last night, he had to break one tackle in the backfield and dodge a couple more defenders at the LOS before finally breaking into the clear.)

With CJ, Lendale, and Ringer, the RB corps is shaping up to be absolutely ridiculous. If the O-line can do their part and control the LOS, then the running game will absolutely destroy opponents. But as long as we're seeing defenders on the wrong side of the ball on every play, I wouldn't expect much from the running game.

I think CJ will have about the same season as last year. They can watch all the film they want on CJ but his speed is just something you can't stop unless you have the same talent as him. He is having a slow start but I think we will see the same speed and dynamic he showed us last year. I think Lendale will improve this season and Ringer will be a great addition to them both. Henry will probably make the team and see more carries so overall I think our run game will be better than last year.

This is where a good coaching staff earns their money.

If we see CJ running the ball up the gut (i.e., plays that would be better designed for White), then yes he'll be likely to have a rough year.

If we use his speedy talents to force LBs to commit to him, he'll be fine. Simple as that.

I fully expect to see CJ doing more than just the most simple, G.E.D. runs this season.

While I think CJ will ultimately have the same success this year as he did last year, he might be a bit slow to start. I'm thinking that teams will initially try to stack the box, which will be effective. That is until Collins starts torching defenses in the air. This will cause them to back out of the box, giving CJ more opportunities.
It looks like defenses are going to yet again dare Collins to beat them in the air.

Obviously, CJ is the starter this year, no questions asked. I'm kind of surprised at the amount of time Lendale has had with the first team (not very much) Chris will be just fine. Let's not jump to any conclusions. The first team has really only play 3 quarters of football. Not even a whole game.

You basically can pay no attention to preseason, it has almost no bearing on how teams do in the regular season.

The LIONS went undefeated in the preseason last year.
    The LIONS.

Preseason is no indicator of how any passing game/running game/defense will go, whatsoever. Motivation is huge in football, and the only people who are motivated are the rookies and backups.

The blocking of the line and WR's will continue to be key to his success, just as it was last year. And with Mawae and Stewart (knee, hope it's not serious) out last night your production's not going to be what it could. O line has not been a strength of the team the first two games.

I was disappointed to see CJ run off of the lead block last night. it seems to me, that if you are going to go through the trouble of having a FB lead block for your RB he should at least follow him

They did that last year and we won 13 games. Now we have Cook, Britt, and Washington. I'm not worried at all.
