When you compare the number of rings, it's not that close...

I don't know about their salary cap issue, so I can't really respond regarding that.

The question in my mind is how good will the Colts be after Manning retires or has diminished skills. Part of me thinks the loss of Manning will lead to them becoming an average team and part of me thinks they could just plug in a fairly decent QB and their system would adjust and keep right on going..... like the Pats did last year when Brady went down. So, is it the system or the player(s)? We'll know in a few years.

I'd be curious to hear what the Colts fans expect after their all-world QB is no longer playing.

I think you're right on target. Peyton is a rare player and a true student of the game. In my opinion, he is the best QB in the league right now and maybe ever. He elevates the play of the guys around him- I'd hate to see what he could do if he had the Cardinal's WRs.

That being said, I think the Colts will collapse when he leaves. Who knows when that will be, he's certainly still playing at a very high level. Enjoy it while it lasts, because times will be tough in Indy without him. ;)

But the debate in the past (not necessarily from you, but from lots of others) was that Manning's contract was what would CAUSE the Colts to drift into SCH. Obviously that hasn't happened....that was the point of my post.

Appreciate the comments from everyone (well...most of you, anyway :ha: ).

Jeff: It's been too long. When you comin' back up? Got a futon and a couple of couches...you can take your pick. Bring Don with you...you can ride in with us and leave the vehicle parked here. That offer always stands and the two of you know it.
Haven't been to Nashville in a couple of years. Between real life and bad timing of the games it hasn't happened, but hopefully next year. We'll definitely try to hook up when it happens. The 'Ville (and visiting with those who live there) is always a great time :).

Considering you had Manning (highest paid QB), Wayne (top 10 paid), Harrison (top 5 paid), Freeney (top paid DE), Sanders (top paid safety i believe) it wasn't out of the realm of possibility that SCH didn't strike.

Why it hasn't? No idea, you plug in players who are average on defense and cheap and rely on your offence to win.

One of the reasons is they get solid production from their rookies EVERY season. You don't see them having guys sitting for two seasons. The cost of a first-rounder when picked at the end of the round doesn't break the bank.

I've not looked at their salary but I bet five players make 50% of the cap.

Wino: I've not gotten back up there since the last time I saw you. I seriously considered it this season but the goTitans.com jet is being used Sunday. Hopefully, funding allows for a trip next season.
