I'm liking the idea of taking Taylor Mays as an OLB. He's actually better suited for the box...I don't think he'll be much of a S in the NFL. But with that being said, it's doubtful that he'll be around when we pick.

That'd give us a solid future LB corps of Mays - Tully - McRath.

Well, this is essentially what I'm suggesting.

"My thinking was it makes sense to take him with his versatility, even if KB is retained. If he is, to me, it makes Thornton's retention less likely. Right now, I'm thinking they would not be especially happy to have to play Keglar, else he would have seen p/t over McRath. Also, picture if next year is uncapped, Tulloch probably won't get extended, being an RFA instead. Thus even letting McClain sit for a year to replace Thornton if Bulluck is extended is not prohibitive or a waste of the pick."

I agree about the FA route, at least regarding DL and OL. I think so far there are two OC/OGs I like in the draft. Mike Iupati from Idaho is one (6'6" 310 or so with fast feet, and runs about a 5 flat). The two in FA would be Logan Mankins of the Pats and Jhari Evans of the Saints. Both I believe are LGs and in that respect would be an upgrade over Amano. As well, both pull really well. But who knows? Perhaps the Titans are thinking differently than we suppose and will move Amano to C and Harris to LG if Mawae is not retained next year.

DL you potentially have Julius Peppers, Aaron Kampman off injury, Shawn Merriman. DT is less stocked IMO at the top, and IMO we have to make Tony Brown a priority before looking elsewhere.

I'd be surprised if the Titans looked to FA for cornerback. The list is topped by Carlos Rodgers, Tramon Williams (wasn't he on our PS at one point?) who will be only an RFA and plays 3rd behind Woodson and Harris who are both older, Dunta Robinson, Marlin Jackson, Leigh Bodden, Dre Bly.... Meh.

Gut makes an excellent point. But knowing the Titans they wont keep bulluck. and really tbh the only 1st round CB I can think of is Haden. Like I said I think Trevard Lindley is gonna drop to the 3rd and he'll be a good pick at the round. what would u do for 1st round?

There is no way McClain is still there when we pick unless we fall off a cliff and lose 3 games of the last 4.

I think the chiefs will take him and if they don't the 49ers will likely take him. He will be most coveted by 3-4 teams who may even see him playing outside and rushing the passer at times he is so big and such a fine athlete.

I don't think thornton will be with the team next year. He counts $4M against the cap in his final contract year and they already like Mcgrath as our SAM linebacker for next year.

Thornton's play has declined a bit and and the titans are very high on mcgrath and i doubt they are going to take a $4M cap hit for a guy who won't start.

As for the weak side maybe the cap room gained by releasing thornton makes it easier to sign bulluck but there seems to be no encouragement there.

Is Keglar ready to step in? There are not many free agent OLBs that really can fill that spot for us. A Thomas Davis maybe or a Gary Brackett.

My guess is that we sign Tulloch to a long term deal and draft a fast OLB in the first 2 rounds.

The OLB position is deep this year.

    Well...

If I was picking from that list I'd look at Kampman (should be cheaper off a down year and coming off an injury) and Dunta Robinson. The Titans would more likely look at a guy like Bodden. Another option just to throw it out there would be trading for the best CB in the game even though his contract is insane...lol We actually have the cap to do it but they would never do it. It also doesn't make sense to get man cover cb's if you play zone 80% of the time...

Watching Suh against Texas and he's a top 5 pick. He could slide a few spots when we get the usual fantastic workout warriors in the combine, but Suh was crazy good. Imagine if he had an offense that could win TOP and didn't leave him on the field all day...

    Again...

What I'd look for in rnd 1 depends on who we keep, which free agents we sign and then where we pick and who comes out. That's a lot of speculation.

Right now I don't see a CB who's a top 5 guy. Could Haden and a few others be 1st rnd players? Yes, but they had better run better than last year's group because last year's group could really play well but were slow on the track.

Eric Berry or Suh I'd take in a second. After that, I could see us taking a great overall or pass rushing DL (depending on where we pick...maybe a Derrick Morgan), the top cb on the board (if he's worth it or available), or more probably...the best LB on the board who might be SW. We could also grab the best OG but the Titans don't like to take OL in rnd 1 even though our bread and butter is pounding the rock.

After the Bowl games we'll have more perspective on who's coming out and who looks to have the most value.

The funny thing is, some of the players I really like we will not draft (like CJ Spiller).

Rolando McClain would be my pick also but I would cry if we went after a DE or CB

McClain is a good pick, but I don't think we NEED him that badly. I am thinking CB.

We don't need him, but he has great potential and having a player of that caliber never hurts. With Bulluck aging and facing the end of his contract, we may be in need of a LB soon. McClain is a very smart player and is a leader on that Alabama defense. He could be like a Patrick Willis.

CB is definitely a need unless someone can step up. Harper should not be re-signed and Hood's been good, but he was cut from other teams for a reason. Maybe McCourty will step up? He has the size and speed. Joe Haden from the draft wouldn't be bad either.
