how about he keeps the same contract he has now with incentives for # of TDs and Rushing Yards in a season?

He's absolutely right, he should be the highest paid RB in the league, why not he's certainly the best? I know Bud has, historically, been very cheap however this circumstance is different. Can anyone remember the last time the Titans/Oilers had the best player at his position? I'd say maybe Earl Campbell or Warren Moon, but that's about it. AP is almost as good, but CJ clearly wins out because his ball secruity is pretty amazing, I believe CJ has two lost fumbles in his first two seasons... AP loses two a game.

It would be a very, very good gesture to give him a new contract that he is deserving of. We want the best RB in the league and ,possibly,on his way to becoming one of the best ever loyal to the Titans.

For the people making the argument that we have CJ locked up and so he has no leverage you're right in the immediate respect, the Titans have him probably up until his days of being productive are over.

However, as a motivational tool and a sign of good faith I think throwing an extra 3 or 4 million his way next season isn't OUTRAGEOUS.. and the cost would easily outweigh the benefits (happy player = good player)

That's almost twice the salary of the currently highest paid RB, Steven Jackson.

If you're (anyone on this thread) a fan of the team, why would you want them to make bad business decisions that would keep us from signing other players? Making CJ the highest paid RB in football will just make this team worse for the next 3-5 years.

Maybe so, but that's what I'd value him at. If Peppers plays DE and earns a million a game then so should the best player in football, especially since he scores TD's.

I don't want our team to be financially crippled but he's the best weapon an offense can get. And the numbers show the best guys get around a mil. Eli is getting just about a mil as a QB so what would you suggest is fair? 800K a game?

We can't afford to lose C.J. to a hold out or anything of that nature, but he can afford to lose the Titans.

Look- we've all heard CJ talk and can assume he isn't the brightest guy out there.

Throw more than 4 zeros on a contract and he wont know the difference. Tell him whatever verbally. "Yeah Chris, that's like a Gabilazillion dollars a year"... "Yeh. Know dat. Whurt. Man. Mo be rich like cha be in dem ride wit rimz"...*signs*

While he certainly deserves a raise I don't think it is time to break the bank just yet. The Titans do need to be aggressive though considering he is about 80% of our offense at this point. I hope they can work something out without it getting ugly...our history though doesn't suggest this will get anything but ugly though. Let the drama commence.

Also I know with our luck... as soon as the titans hand him that big fat check he'll crumble under the weight of it and blow out both knees.
