A real contender wins when they we need to win. Since going 10-0 last year we're 11-12 including the playoffs. Talk about falling flat on your face. Definitely not the coaches fault tho....no way. Not Fisher, he's been here for 16 years, he has to be a good coach, right?

Exactly. I like everyone on here thought the Titans were Superbowl contenders last year but after looking a long hard look at the team we really weren't. A Superbowl contender doesn't make horrible mistakes many times during a game, doesn't lose at home to a wild card team, and doesn't lose their first playoff game to a rookie QB. At worst I thought our season would end in the AFC championship but I couldn't fathom losing to freaking Baltimore but it happened. We were frauds and this year is kinda proving that, I hate saying it but I have to go by what I see. Which, back to my original point, maybe we need to make some changes. Maybe upgrade the talent through free agency and if we happen to miss the playoffs this upcoming year, yea we can add coach to the list of changes as well.

Whether or not a team is a "superbowl contender" is subjective based on one's own criteria.

If you want to say a team isn't a superbowl contender until they win a playoff game, then are you saying no team is a 2010 superbowl contender? Or only teams that won a playoff game this season? That seems pretty ridiculous to me.

Was it wrong for a commentator to say the Vikings or Saints were superbowl contenders 5 weeks ago? Neither of those teams won a playoff game last season.

Oh well, all this "contender" stuff doesn't really matter. What matters is whether or not the team actually makes it to the Superbowl, and that's something we haven't been able to do in a decade.

People can call teams contenders at any point during the season but nobody knows if a team is a true contender for the Superbowl until the playoffs. People thought the Patriots were Superbowl contenders all year but did they look like it against Baltimore? No.

Smith and Mawae said that if next season goes forward with no salary cap, it would be highly unlikely to have a new CBA with a cap reinstated.

    "Virtually impossible," Smith said.

"A very difficult task," Mawae said.

Just remember. Since there may be no cap next year that doesn't mean just that teams can over-spend on players that they would not normally spend as much on. That also means that cheap owners can also get away with spending less. The cap also means that a team must spend a minimum on players. With no cap next season a team can unload salary also. So I look for Dud to go more towards a cost cutting spree than a spending spree. He will probable give Vinny his 23 mil and cut players or go to the bargain bin. He will live up to his name, Bottom-Line-Bud.

In 1999/2000 the Titans were at home and favored against Buffalo in the Wild Card Round of the Playoffs. The Titans played bad and needed a miracle (literally) to win that game. Based on your theory of the 2008 White/Crumpler Fumble Debacle against Baltimore the 1999 Titans were IN NO WAY a "Super Bowl Contender" moments after what should have been a loss to the Bills. Well.....Turns out they were.

To be fair, The loss to the Jets after 10-0 was legit but the other 2 losses were "Lay Down" losses to rest players. Basically the Titans went 13-2 last season in games they went all out.

The last 10 years worth of head coaches that "led" their team to the Super Bowl.

Bill Belichick is the only coach to have made it to more Super Bowls than Jeff Fisher.

    Belichick 4
    Fisher 1
    Dungy 1
    Cowher 1
    Reid 1
    Fox 1
    Wisenhunt 1
    Holmgren 1
    Coughlin 1
    Billick 1
    Tomlin 1
    Smith 1
    Vermeil 1
    Gruden 1
    Callahan 1
    Martz 1

I find it funny that so many people knock Fisher for only getting to the SB 1 time and Tony Dungy is seen as a top dog while only going to 1 SB with what may be the best QB to ever play the game. Fisher has had Chris Chandler, McNair, O'Donnell, Volek, Collins and Vince Young.
The Colts wouldn't trade Manning for all those guys combined in their prime!

  10. Negotiating ploy, pure and simple. The players have made out like bandits from the salary cap and they know it...
