Sometimes the "can't play special teams" thing bothers me...especially when it comes to rookies. You can't coach a guy how to play ST? Many rookies have never played ST. Blount obviously has some physical talent. Maybe in the time he was there they etched in stone that he'd never be able to pick up how to play ST and block. Since they cut him I'm guessing Blount showed an unwillingness to learn one or the other. I can't imagine them cutting him because he couldn't pick up the art of covering kicks in four weeks.

Well Randy Starks wasn't cut but we let him go to Miami and he's got 10 sacks since 08 which is more than Tony Brown, just saying.

Matt Leinart was a monster in college. He played at USC. With some good coaching he could...awww who am I kidding

Just playing at Penn State doesn't mean you'll be a great linebacker in the pros, or even a good one. They have a handful of linebackers in the NFL now and the only one I'd take is Paul Posluszny.

You know, as bad as our coverage teams were in the preseason, I'm amazed at all the b@@!#ing about Blount being cut. The guy would have gotten maybe ten carries this year and couldn't play on the any of the special teams effectively. He would have been a healthy scratch most weeks.

I can't believe that most people in this thread are ripping the team for cutting Blount. Our coaching staff knows what they're doing and our Special Teams need help and these additions obviously are upgrades to those units.

Rb's are a dime a dozen...just ask Shanahan. Blount will never become a star in this league. He's a head case and he's proven it twice now. That move in college goes way beyond the line we all know we shouldn't cross. We don't want anyone like that on our team unless he's the top at his position like Albert

teams don't value special teams as much. The titans have great depth and need some true special teamers. We have good special teams and we maybe have 2 more wins last year.

10 carries this year? Maybe, assuming Ringer kept the #2 job. But even so, what about next year or the year after. I know LenDale wasn't an awesome RB but his rookie year he did nothing, he picked it up the next two seasons and had some nice numbers, nothing great but he found the end zone a lot. How do you know in a year or two Blount couldn't have done the same, or better? Or have been the #2 this year? You don't.

I don't HATE that we cut Blount, I'd rather have cut someone else but what did we cut him for? 2 Journeyman linebackers? Really?! Like I said if we had to cut him then at least pick up someone who might be a rookie or a first year player, someone with upside. Not someone who's been passed around from the Panthers to the Jags to the Bears and then cut. How good could that guy possibly be?

And if we want better special teams players then Kelley Washington and Kassim Osgood were both free agents this year and they are both very good special teamers and we didn't even show the slightest bit of interest.

No. If they did our special teams wouldn't have sucked for what, 3 years now?

Tim Shaw made 30 special teams tackles last year, that's pretty dam good.

It's not just about special teams play, we needed linebacker depth too. Standford Keglar was like having a sack of potatoes on the roster. David Thornton won't play until at least week six(probably not at all). McRath won't play until week four.

Here's our depth at linebacker without these signings:
    starting- Witherspoon, Tulloch, Allred(constantly hurt)
    Backups- Curran(rookie), Amato(long snapper), Winborn

Not very good depth at all.

Chances are, one, if not both of these guys will be cut when the McRath and Thornton come back and you guys can have your Precious back off the PS.

RB's are a dime a dozen, huh? And a no name player who covers kicks, aren't?
