Well lets look at this objectively. We have a top 10 offensive line. Last year it was a top 3 line, this year its a top 10. We have an explosive running back. We have not 1, not 2, but 3 wide receivers that can explode for huge plays and games. We have a potentially elite TE, and then a garbage one that we actually play (still trying to figure that one out). There is simply no more excuses for Vince. Not that he needs any, he's having a great season after all, but he is in a position to flourish. Three years ago the knock was this team not putting enough weapons around him. Well forget about that noise, this is possibly the most dynamic offense in the NFL. We can beat you with multiple guys in multiple ways, deep threats, possession guys, fast back, strait back, running QB with a great arm.... its really unbelievable when you try and wrap your mind around it. So the question is, can Vince be the dude? Can he do it? If Tom Brady or Peyton Manning had this offense around them, it would be unstoppable.

I think he can. Against the Chargers, he looked as good as I have ever seen him. He was patient and poised in the pocket, stood tall, and more or less dissected the #1 pass defense in the NFL. He was a couple drops (and an armbar noncall against Britt) shy of a 300 yard 3 TD game, very impressive. And all of this without 2 starting wideouts, including Britt. And it was an 'elite 3-4' defense, which appears to be the standard these days if you want to prove you're legit (Nate, Deuce). Opinions?

He's still got a ways to go, but he doesn't need to be Brady/Manning to be very successful in our offense. I will say this - everyone's talking about the effect Moss will have on CJ, but I think the person this has the greatest impact on is Vince:

    1) Moss is an excellent WR, and a professional who knows the position better than anyone else in the building. He won't hesitate to let VY know what he's seeing in the defense and where he likes the ball in certain situations. Vince has shown he'll listen to that stuff, and Moss will make VY better pre-snap just as much as post-snap.

    2) I can't believe Fisher and MR did this - and I can only imagine this is a huge vote of confidence for Vince. All the talk is about how Moss needed a strong coach to keep him happy and in line, but he needs a strong QB, too. To me, this either means Fish has lost his mind bringing in a WR like Moss to get 4-5 targets a game... or they've seen enough from Vince to believe we can place a bit more weight in the passing game. I think it's door #2. Well see.

    3) Softer zones in the secondary. Let's face it, up until now safeties have had the luxury of roaming where they wanted to try to bait Vince into a bad throw. This has to make them cheat a little to Moss, which just leaves that much more room for VY to drop a pass in the soft spots of the zone.

CJ will benefit, but he's still the #1 threat and teams will try to stop him first, and then the 13-year vet Moss. I think Vince is the big winner.

This is just unbelievable. Who do you double now? Put 8-9 in the box and we torch you with Moss or Washington. Double Moss, and C.J. gets the lanes he needs to take it to the house. Keep a spy on Vince and all hell breaks lose in the play-action game. I'm so excited it's ridiculous. Randy Moss better not F this up. We may only get half a season out of him, but if we make it to the Super Bowl it's well worth it.

Vince will be good. He will probably throw more, which could mean more picks/incompletions. I expect his passer rating to go down a little but his passing yards to shoot up. Don't worry about the stats, I think our offense will be much stronger from here on out.

This is what is good IMO.
The whole reason for getting Moss was to fill the role Britt had as the guy who could stretch the field. I'm also not sure if Moss is as good as Britt in particular when he has to go over the middle. So bottom line is our offense didn't really get better it just replaced Britt with a real good deep threat so the Britt injury doesn't hurt as much as it could.

Either way defenses will have to account for Moss which opens things up for the other guys. Unfortunately we were right at the point where defenses were going to have to really take Britt seriously. SD apparently didn't and Britt could have had a deep TD pass on the play he got hurt on. If he manages to haul that one in and score without getting hurt my guess is SD makes some changes to their defense.

Heck, the Eagles never did figure out how to stop Britt.

I just really hope that his ankle heals up and quits bothering him. I think he has finally learned when running is good and when to scramble to buy time to make a pass.

what people aren't mentioning enough is 3rd down conversions. Moss is going to contribute in that area more than anywhere else. We've been awful on 3rd downs..

When Britt returns, moss can still go deep while we let Britt terrorize the 2nd level with his big body.

I know it's blasphemy, but at this point in their careers I'd even say Britt gives you a little more than Moss. But yea, it's essentially just an even trade until Britt returns. But...

You're right. In a way it doesn't matter whether WE think Britt could/should demand a double team. Even with Britt playing well, he's not CJ and if defenses are forced to choose between CJ beating you and Britt they'll lean toward chancing it with Britt and Vince. Moss carries a different perception, and his presence should immediately demand the attention we've hoped Britt could establish over time.

Either way with CJ, Britt and Moss we will have no excuse for ever failing to convert a 3rd down ever again.

I hope Moss finally forgives the Titans for passing on him in the draft. :grrhee:
