The reason why people say that we would have won was because by the Rams own admission, their defense was gassed on the final drive. One Ram player told Vermeil he could not even play one of the final downs and literally refused to go back into the game. Dick Vermeil admitted as much after the game, and admitted that the Titans had just beaten them down to where they were ready to quit, not because of a lack of heart, but because they just couldn't go any more.

So when they say we were one yard short of the win, I think that is the deal, we probably were.

And because of that, I think we kick the extra point. And then bury them in overtime. But C'est la vie.

I can honestly say I was not hurt by the loss, and was proud of that final drive so much that I can watch the highlights of the game. I mean that last drive was epic. All heart.

Sends shivers up my spine. Maybe better that we did not get there.

10+ years later, and that second to last play (where McNair pretty much shakes off the whole Rams DL before hitting Dyson on the 10) still gives me goosebumps...that was a MAN moment.

Of course Fisher kicks the extra point. The Titans were playing better ball than the Rams the whole second half except for one long pass play. Very good chance if we win the coin toss we run the ball down their throats and kick the winning FG.

The Rams had the greatest show on turf and the Titans more than played well enough to win the game. One play was the difference.

If Fisher hadn't gone for 2 earlier in the game, a TD (+ PAT) would've won it at the end.

It was way too early to go for 2 when he did, and I'm not just saying that in hindsight... Actually, I probably am because I was only 10 years old at the time.

i just wanna remind everyone that we had beaten St. Louis earlier that season. People act like that was one of the greatest teams ever when we beat them in the season and if Fisher hadn't have went typical uber conservative in the first half of that game maybe we would have pulled out a 2nd W against the Rams that season.

Great point. When things get tight, play it close to the vest, try to minimize mistakes. It works half the time. As a result, .500 coach.

That's the game I started hating Fisher in.

He handcuffed McNair and went with what wasn't working. Waited far too long to let Steve go to work. Steve just simply didn't have enough time to win it.

Keep in mind we did attempt a 2-point conversion earlier in the game, and failed on the pass attempt. That would've certainly played into Fisher's next move had we got in the endzone.
