So I was talking football with a friend from Miami who I hadn't seen in a while the other day and naturally, the Titans came up. What he had to say was something along the lines of:

"Titans fans are a joke... They boo at the first sign of trouble. How do you boo your QB/team in a tie game when his QB rating is 107 and you're still in a good spot to make the playoffs?"

Coming from someone that's completely neutral, that got me thinking.

I was at the Seahawks game two weeks ago (against Carolina, the worst team in the NFL) and even though they were down 14-0 in the first half, the crowd was cheering them on the entire time. There were a few drunk idiots booing but as a whole, it was a very supportive environment. The Seahawks ended up scoring 28 unanswered points in the second half and winning and the crowd was going wild by the end of it.

I feel as though if we were down 14-3 at the half to Carolina the fans would have booed the players off the field. Thoughts?

    I disagree

We have/had a QB controversy going on and neither one has really won the crowd over. I do not think the fans were booing Vince that day, but I think he took it that way.

and look at it this way, 5-2 and now 5-8? Thats a pretty big deal, A SIX game losing streak in the past 2 seasons. No other team in the NFL has done that these last 2 seasons.

Now if we were 9 wins, I would not want to hear booing if we turned the ball over. Turnovers happen, I can deal with turnovers. 6 game losing streaks in back to back seasons when everyone was expecting a playoff team? That I can not handle.

At that time, the Titans were 5-4, tied for 1st in the AFC South in a tie game with the Redskins.

Since I'm living 2 hours from the stadium I told my son we would go to the Redskins game. He said 'why, so we can boo?'

Right or wrong it is the perception

I've only heard loud booing towards the team maybe three times at LP Field. Once was the season opener when McNair was booed. I believe that was after his second pick of the game or something similar. I didn't think it was deserved.

VY was booed against Jax on that famous day after his second pick which was thrown to a LB who didn't have to move a foot to make the INT.

The entire offense and coaching staff, IMO, was booed the latest time against the Skins for just being ineffective against a crappy team, at home, after losing the previous two games. It was, IMO, deserved.

Titans fans are not blind homers. I believe this fan base knows when they are seeing an effort or an uninspired team going through the motions. I remember the Titans getting a lot of support during the rebuilding years even through they were losing because they saw a team playing with heart.

Yeah, I agree Jeff. When Dolphin fans see an uninspired team going through the motions they call it a home game.

That's rich coming from someone from Miami, the unquestioned capitol of fair-weather fans.
Titans have a great fan base. We never hear about blackouts and as Jeff says they are well informed. And this is clearly not the first sign of trouble.

Something to consider is that we now live in the age of online fan forums, NFL network, PFT, Madden, Fantasy Leagues, ESPN apps for iPhone and a general BARRAGE of NFL information. This is in complete contrast to a time not long ago when you would have to sit through 3 quarters of a televised game or watch the local news at 11:00pm to find out the scores from around the league. You youngin's have no idea.

With all of this info blasting you in the face these days it's next to impossible not to have a very defined opinion of almost every aspect of what's going with your favorite team. Blind homerism is far less in effect that it was just 20 years ago - and it's because the info is there.

If I had paid what some of you pay to watch them self destruct in person, I think I might boo myself. A fan who attends every game invests too much money in them to have to watch them play like Vandy(no offense, Vandy fans!)At home I can just gesture to the tv and go do something else with my time. So, since booing is a time honored tradition, then why not, especially when they do so little for so much?(money, that is)

Because your friend is like the national media HE NEVER SAW A TITAN GAME.

The fans at the game knew what was really going on. It didn't matter what our record was we knew our team sucked, Our coaching sucked and we weren't going to win another game.

And what i saw was the fans were booing the playcalling. not the players

I know I know. There's no way the fans could know that the Titans sucked this bad with a 5-4 record.... and yet they did know BECAUSE THEY ACTUALLY WATCH THE GAMES.

I think it's pretty F'ing obvious that the booing and booers have been vindicated by what transpired the following weeks after the booing. Don't you?

The NFL is about WINNING... Specifically WINNING THE SUPERBOWL.
