I've thought the same thing about Munch and Wash... both lines have been awful this year. Based on that I don't think they are as invaluable as Kuharsky likes to believe, and if they leave with Fisher I would accept that as part of the needed change.

Up until this year Wash has been excellent, and Much has been very good. So I'm not ready to say that 1 bad year is an indictment on their abilities. The whole team imploded, and I have to think the scheme and personnel don't match. I can't blame them for that, but the stupid penalties are certainly on them. I'd prefer for them to stay, but I'd accept it if they don't.

Could it be the lines just aren't that good? The D-Line started off awesome but then the injuries came and teams adjusted. Not to mention we don't have anyone touching 300lbs so they just get pushed around. Tony Brown hasn't been healthy all year. The O-Line obviously is not as good as it was with Mawae. The three in the middle, Harris, Amano and Scott have all played pretty poorly this year. Maybe they aren't as good as we thought. That's pretty much my take on the whole season and why I'm not thinking of the latter part of this season as this huge letdown. I think we were an average team that was overachieving in the beginning of the year and once the injuries and QB issues came we couldn't recover because we lack depth and experience. This team simply isn't capable of handling that much adversity, partly because its a young team, and partly because many of the players simply aren't quite as talented as we thought.

I'm sure the line went to hell because of the lack of Mawae.

McMvp9 had a nice post and for the most part I agree.
I'm not sure fans really understand what could happen. It is really like fans thinking any kid out of college is automatically better than a proven vet. Human nature I guess to expect things to get better. But just like we have busts come out as players we can have a bust with this organization as a HC that could send the organization into a down slide that could last a decade. That is something fans in Nashville have not been had to experience. This is the NFL, not college football. 8-8 might seem mediocre and I suppose to a point it is but 500 in the pros is far more successful than your favorite college team. In the pros it simply isn't easy to year in and year out have a playoff caliber team with the few exceptions of teams with pro-bowl/HOF bound QBs.

At the same time there does come a point where maybe a coaching change is a good thing. My biggest concern is the owner. The most screwed up teams in the NFL are the ones with the screwed up owners. That after all is usually where teams fail year in and year out. The owner thinks he knows what he is doing when he doesn't. With the Titans that has been the case.

So the real problem of late really is we have a meddling owner who hasn't let the coaching staff and GM make all their own decisions and we have been stuck with a QB that isn't capable of taking the team to the next level. I don't think Fisher loves Collins but I think with the problems with Young he has little choice but to try and win with Collins. Even though the VY crowd like to think Fisher picked Collins over VY that really wasn't the case. Young picked Collins over himself with his injuries and poor attitude.

So I'm torn. On one hand I want to see better results but on the other I'm uneasy about the direction this franchise could go. I do think if we go with a new coach that guy needs to have the power to pick his staff and have a significant input into picking his players. No trumping of those decisions by the owner. The owner's job is to supportive of the HC.

Nice post, I think we could become a winning team again if they kept Fisher and dumped VY, possibly trading for a Kevin Kolb or drafting one of the hot college QB's..

No great coach will come here knowing they're stuck at the hip with VY.

I was in the same boat.

Though it's not always the case, you can expect it taking 2-3 years after a new head coach hire to become a contender again. Add a new QB in the mix and I think 2-3 years is being optimistic.

That's assuming the HC/QB are solid choices. Miss on one or both and you get a lot of what the Titans have had the last couple of seasons.

With Bud at the helm, getting that solid coach/QB may be difficult. His options for a HC may be limited because of his involvement in ramming Young down Fisher's throat. And you have to think the Titans next coach will always be the "rebound" coach because of Fisher's popularity among most fans. It could mean that next HC isn't going to be popular initially.

Having said all that, the one thing which has me leaning towards a new HC is I no longer have faith he can get the Titans to the next level. That's the bottom line for me.

It's easy to see it that way after the VY/Fisher bust up this season and Buds comments that they have to get along.

Let's not forget though that Bud saying he wanted Vince to start last year and in 2006 saved Fisher twice from the pitiful results we have seen this season.

I don't see Bud as a meddler anymore. It's pretty obvious that whoever has the HC job next season will be coaching with VY as QB.

Barring a blockbuster trade he is our only viable option. He has one year left on his contract. just what exactly is the big deal here?

Fishers record does not stand up under scrutiny. The bust up was a big story but it has nothing to do with why we suck and neither does Bud's interventions over VY.

I still think highly of both coaches. In 08 and 09 our o-line was outstanding.

Munch has a long history in Houston as player and coach. He still has busines interests there. I think he might be going to the Texans. There is talk that he could be the new OC there but who knows who the next coach will be?

Maybe he will be Fisher's OC there.

Not necessarily. Fisher didn't think enough of either man to give them a bump to OC or DC. Somebody might want Munch as OC.

Washburn might not want to pack up and move just for love of Fisher if our new coach courts him and he is offered better money to stay.
