Bud's billionaire @$$ is saving a few million dollars. I think that's probably what this all boils down to. Or else Bud has went completely senile. Fisher is going to "return us to an elite level"?!? Has Bud even been watching this team? Did he forget that the last time we won a playoff game was nearly a decade ago? Did he already forget about the back to back 6 game losing streaks and 5 game losing streaks in 4 of the last 5 seasons or whatever it is?

This is baffling. Really. What a slap in the face.

I agree it's about the $$$. I really feel that this has everything to do with the upcoming players union vs the NFL that might prevent no football next year or atleast cut into the season. VY would be in the $$$ if they play even one game. Fisher's salary is a fraction of what VY would get so if it's going to be a short season he's going to go with the one that won't cost him much......well outside of another losing season no matter how many games they play.

Didn't Fish say that Collins would be back, but as a back up?

If that's the case, the only thing I can see happening is we draft a QB at 8 and/or will be bringing in a FA/Trade for a QB.

IMO, the only reason Fish played Collins was because of his dislike for VY. I think Fish is smart enough to realize that putting all his eggs in Collins basket would be career suicide if we wants to stay in Tennessee.

He's under contract, so Bud kind of has a VERY legit reason to hang onto him. It makes me sick, but financially it kind of makes sense. If, however, we come out and have a terrible season and he gets an extension next offseason... idk. I'd be very upset and really have to question how to support a team with so much of my time and money when they aren't committed to make smart moves for the franchise. We'll see how it unfolds this year. Fisher could very well earn a contract extension by coming out and making the playoffs, however unlikely that is.

Really? He thinks collins was and is better than VY! As long as collins is on the roster, I fear jeff wants to prove a point. I think he did set Rusty up for failure, so there would be no one wanting Smith over Collins.

Rusty Smith should have started the INDY game, with a real game plan, so we would know if the kid can play or not!

Go turn the Houston game tape on and see if you think fisher gave the kid a chance? 31 throws and your best player gets 7 carries, in a game 0-0 first qt and 14 -0 halftime and 20-0 end. Peyton Manning as a rookie would have had a hard time with that plan!

Then someone tell me how chris simms is better than rusty smith? If so why did Fisher keep smith over Simms, in the preseason?

What gave anyone the idea that Simms can play based on training camp? If his daddy was not Phil would he have even been called?

Things like this is why Jeff has the friends in the media that he does. Is it good football or good PR? Did anyone think that Chris Mortenson's son could play at all? Or was he brought in because of daddy that year?

Jeff Fisher is a PR machine, but does that win football games? It does seem to keep his job. Again, if he makes staff changes, extend him and lets move on, but more of the same smells of 4-12!

Were not going to win next season anyways. Mine as well let Fisher be the fall guy for once, instead of letting him push it all on Young.

Firing fisher now bails him out. I can't wait til we suck it up next season with Fisher's "guy" at QB.

Yeah I understand that. I know it makes financial sense. But financial sense shouldn't be Bud's main concern in this particular situation.

If we draft a 1st round QB, Fish gets an extension. Regardless of what our record ends up being. I'm very confident of that. It'll be "Oh [insert QB here] and Fisher have such a great relationship!" "You don't want to have to force your QB to learn a brand new system in only his second season!"

Nevermind that we finished sub .500 and par for the course for Fisher.

the ONLY positive is we could get big al back. Didn't he say he wanted to come back only if Fisher was coach?

I don't see us winning a lot of games next year if we don't draft a qb that can play right away or trade for a solid vet.
