didn't want that legtharic 475lb toolbag calling the plays anyways. I'm okay with cleanin house but isn't the whole point of cleaning house upgrading each spot as much as possible? Mike Tice? Really?

Not really upset but I didn't think a team could deny a job for a higher position?

I think they customarily don't deny assistants the chance at a better opportunity, but they're not compelled to do so by rule unless the coach is interviewing for a head coaching position. Often when a club denies an assistant the chance to at least interview it's simply a case of the coach in question not really being interested in the job on offer, but I think this might be a case of the Bears seeing just how much Tice did for their offence last season, and not wanting to be left in the lurch this late in the offseason.

Teams are able to block any interview, as long as it's not for the Head Coach position. I always thought interviews for a job that would be a promotion couldn't be blocked, but I was wrong. It's a very common misunderstanding (Which begs the question: Was there a rule change recently, or did some putz put that in his articles without researching to find out if he's mistaken?)

I am surprised at this though. I can understand if, say, an AFC South team blocked us. I think that's the only case where blocking an interview can be seen as totally justified - if it's a division rival asking for it (like when we denied the Texans from interviewing Munch for their OC spot). The Jets blocking us from interviewing Bill Callaghan was disappointing, and they ran the risk of peeving off Callaghan by doing so, but they're still in the AFC, so it's at least understandable - especially considering the stature of the potential interviewee. But a NFC team blocking an AFC team from interviewing their OL coach for an OC position? That's cold.
