Fortunately you're not making the cuts. A third string QB who knows the playbook is of value. PS the guy if necessary.

I don't get this mentality. Rusty is a raw talent who will take time to develop. He's an inexpensive risk with the potential of being a solid backup or even starting in a few seasons.

Go back and look at the stats on Jake Delhomme and Tony Romo. These guys hung around, became a backup, then stepped in when they got their shot.

He's not keeping anyone "off the field". As the #3 QB, he's not part of the active gameday roster.

If Munch was a man that enjoyed a good smoke now and again, he could resign Simms and use Rusty as a threat to take his spot if he didn't keep quality herb coming. I knew Rusty had value!!!

Seriously this thread has turned hilarious. Lets get into week 2 of the season and if all we are fretting over is if Rusty gets to stay/get a shot then I'm guessing we are golden.

At a time when QB is our biggest need, you want to cut the only QB on our roster? Smart...

It would be different if we were keeping the same coordinator but we're going to be bringing in a new offensive coordinator. There's going to be adjustments made regardless.

I could name lots of guys I'd rather have as a backup over Rusty Smith. He's a "project". He can stay on practice squad and not take up roster space. I know that QB's don't come a dime a dozen but we need players who can compete on our roster especially since we don't know how our QB situation is gonna work out. Whoever we bring in could not work out as our starter. I'd rather have 3 potential starters. If Rusty isn't ready throw him on the practice squad.

Don't be hating on the Donnie now, he provides us with 'quality' depth at Safety...

The Cam Newton/Rookie train cracks me up.

They'll say Rusty Smith sucks so much for having an average rookie showing... yet when their beloved draft pick sucks for a season... the flood of excuses will come.

Maybe I'm missing something but I didn't see anything in the preseason games or his regular season debut that lead me to believe he was an NFL QB.

Has he yet though? No. He's not even in the NFL yet. So for you to complain when some of us call Rusty Smith terrible from the terrible 1.5 games plus preseason he had, and then go and call Cam Newton terrible before he even gets drafted is pretty hypocirtical.
