I know we all beat this topic to death on this board, but I was curious after this draft what you all think? I find it extremely ironic that the coaches say they are interested in running a hybrid scheme but yet drafted all 3-4 defensive help. Maybe the Titans do plan on transitioning to a 3-4 scheme in the future but only time can tell. In any case, I was curious to why not draft a single 4-3 player when it's clear we need defensive help in our base scheme which is currently 4-3.

What do you guys think about all the 3-4 drafted help?

Isn't it pretty subjective to call these players we drafted "3-4" defensive players? It's not like we drafted some 340-350 lb. DT to use as an NT

Well, Ayers played in the 4-3. Casey has experience in the 3-4 and the Tampa 2. Colin McCarthy was in the 4-3. Klug is the only questionable one, but I'm hoping we just play him strong side at DE.

Were playing both. Were gonna switch up our defense mid game. Jerry Gray is awesome.

The 3-4 argument is stupid. Look how many 3-4 teams are switching to a 4-3 because they have not had success. Teams think that if they have had a sub par defense for a few years they can just change systems and it will help.

The Browns traded Corey Williams for just a 5th last year and they let Shaun Rogers get away. 2 guys they went after because they were supposed to be ideal for the 3-4. Now both of those guys are on 4-3 teams.

We will never abandon the 4-3 as our base defense. We just modified how we play it and wanted to get bigger. A 3 man front is normal in nickel and dime packages so that is not a real 3-4.

We just don't have the people to play a traditional 3-4. Plain and simple. We have no NT and now only Ayers is a typical 3-4 type OLB.

We don't even have Tulloch signed and we are going to use a system that employs 2 inside linebackers?

Yeah but the best defenses have a particular system and scheme and draft well for it. Flexibility and versatility are great but you have to have one thing that you do well that is your base defense.

We could have drafted Jerrell Powe a 6th rd pick of a 3-4 team, Chiefs. If we were that serious about playing a real 3-4 why didn't we take him?

"Hybrid scheme" is a code word for, "we don't know WTF we're doing, and we're desperate because none of it works." See 2009 Jags, 2010 Bills. Pick one or the other, coach the heck out of it, let the players get comfortable with it, and let them go play football.

Try to do too much on defense and you end up doing nothing on defense.
