I agree with that, except that I do not think CJ goes for that. I would think that, if given the choice of FA market at age 27, or extending a couple of years to get to 29-30, I would push for a money increase within this contract only, then be ready to test the waters at 27.

The way rookie contracts are structured really screw RBs IMO....their most productive years are usually their first 3-5 seasons (unlike the other skill position players who start hitting their peaks at around 3-5 years), then they usually have a rapid falloff right around age 30. CJ's situation is a classic example of this (not speculating on his falloff here...).

Hopefully we can bump his salary to the $6-7 MM per year that Pettso has mentioned, then make our long term decisions at the end of his first contract period. At that point he should have about another 3-5 years left, and should take the best money deal he can find. I would love to have him remain a Titan, but this is a business, and he needs to look out for his own future IMO.

Pay him for 4-5 more years. If he's still playing at a pro-bowl level then, we can always franchise tag him.

Agreed. Even with the bad playcalling, he wasn't hitting holes and didn't have that burst he had the first two years. Instead he thought he was Barry Sanders by dancing in the backfield the same way Eddie George was towards the end of his career. It was very frustrating to watch at times.

But to his credit, he did take a beating last year, and he was hurt. And keep in mind all the backs that got more carries than him last season have significantly more bulk.

This is Locker's and CJ's team now. Hopefully the new staff will run plays designed for those two guys. And more roll outs and bootlegs please.

I doubt CJ will even push for a new deal until next offseason.

new coach already knows him and has a formed opinion from a few years of same-team interaction

i don't think anything will change Mike's thoughts on him unless he just drastically goes to the negative
