Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt is looking for RB Javon Ringer to be a better special teams player in 2011.

"It’s hard to have a backup running back that doesn’t play special teams," he said. That would almost seem to imply Ringer's roster spot could be in danger if he doesn't look like he's an improved special teams player in the preseason. He's definitely on notice after Tennessee spent a fourth-round pick on Jamie Harper last weekend.

Harper will take over the #2 spot by weeks 4. Ringer doesnt have the size or speed to be a good special teamer.

No, but he has the size and speed to be good RB. He's the guy you want to step in if Chris Johnson gets hurt. Special teams? I can't think of a dumber reason to demote a player from a skill position... if it happens. It's ultimately Munchak's call anyway.

no, what they are saying is Jevon doesnt bring enough to the table to be a RB only, he needs to carry his own weight by also playing special teams, he isnt like CJ who is good enough to only be a RB. And i agree with the Titans Jevon isnt a change of pace RB unless you count slow as being a change of pace. I dont even know why Fisher drafted the kid. Munchak and the other guys did the right thing and got a bigger RB who really can be a change of pace for CJ. like me ex GF once said, Size Matters.

Production and points matter, and that's why you would want Ringer. He can be a feature back if needed... Furthermore, the title of this thread is misleading. Reinfeldt nor Munchak have said anything about Javon being demoted. All that was said is that they want him to be more involved on special teams. There's not even a story here.

They're just saying this stuff to shake up the team. I think we'll see a lot more of this. The new regime wants there to be competition for spots in camp. No one (*cough* Justin Gage) is going to inherit a spot they don't deserve.

It's definitely refreshing to hear all these comments fron Reinfeldt.

The news that I really want to hear though is that Amano is no longer our Centre.

I wish it said he was demoted. I appreciate the posting but can't you just post the entire article about the Presser with fans with Munchak and Reinfeldt instead of posting each comment individually with a fairly misleading title?

Ringer isn't bad but he's very expendable. Let every running back on the roster fight for the number 2 job all through training camp and preseason, and see what happens.
