I cancelled today. Thankfully I get billed on the 14th of every month, so I won't have to pay for a month I don't want.

Serious question for you... what's the plan now? Watch illegally? Watch only what is offered for free online? Rent new releases from a physical store at $3 a pop?

    Sidereel.com.

I've been watching the TV series that weren't offered on Netflix on there for free anyway. I can hook my laptop to my TV with an HDMI chord, it's just a hassle.

I've never used it. What's their selection like?

As far as I can tell they have pretty much any show you could want. It appears to be all user based. People upload videos through separate sites(megavideo and videobb, for example).

If you pay, you get unlimited viewing per day. If you don't pay you can watch 72 minutes of video at a time on each site. I usually just watch 72 minutes worth of something on megavideo then watch 72 minutes worth on videobb and then go back to megavideo. Each site makes you wait 60 minutes after each 72 minute allotment, so it works out great.

I haven't tried to watch very many movies on it, but I haven't been watching a lot of movies anyway since Netflix's online selection was so limited to begin with. It felt like I had watched everything I would be interested in and just sat there and cycled through the selections until I could settle on something that looked halfway decent.

I'll probably just use Redbox occasionally to see newly released movies.

Wow bigtitan you come across as a huge crybaby here.

Netflix is doing what they have to do to survive in what is becoming a heavily saturated market. It wasn't like that before. But they have to increase their prices to survive. And you cry because you have to pay $6 more a month.

    Boo hoo. **** happens.

My tuition at college cost $1500 per semester when I first started. Now it is like $4100 for the people attending with the only difference at the school being new construction projects that no one wants or cares about that plus the school going up a division in football. That is something to complain about. $1500-4100 in less than 5 years.

$6/month isn't. So it isn't as convenient for you anymore. Ok I get that. But trying to get everyone you know to cancel because you don't want to pay $6 more is just plain stupid and selfish on your part. Maybe the people you are trying to get to cancel enjoy the service and don't mind the extra charge considering the convenience and cost (still much cheaper than a regular rental store).

  8. People don't like price increases, but I think this will mostly blow over in the long run. The non-piracy competition isn't really any cheaper unless you only rent a few DVDs per month. Plus, I suspect their internet data costs for streaming are exorbitant.

I'm not a Netflix user, though I have been considering getting it. I probably would only do streaming now and skip the DVDs. Then I'd get an occasional DVD from Redbox (which I have also never done) if I want to watch a new release.

I can't speak to why Netflix is upping their fees but it doesn't seem like that big of deal.
My company went 10 years without a price increase to our clients. Meanwhile our costs rose every single year. When we did finally add a 15% increase just to keep up we got tons of hate mail, accusations etc. saying we were thieves, fat cats etc. Good grief, people need to get a clue sometimes.
