And we need a SS. I think that our head coach and Oline coach can STILL block better than 75% of the OLine FAs on the market right now.

Exactly, these guys are UNPROVEN for the fact that we are letting washed up players Will Witherspoon in there spot. Will was good for us the first couple games but like most Older Vets he died out mid-season. I can see keeping the guy as a mentoring role, but I would much rather see these young linebackers start a full season to see what they are capable of instead of bringing someone in to start in front of them to find out next year two years from now these werent the right guys. Its funny how some people can hate on gage and washington for the same reasons for being old and washed up but yet want old and washed up linebackers to start over young players with potential.

I see your point, but it's not going to happen. It's not like these guys will not see the field at all. 'Spoon isn't washed up, he had 92 tackles and 3 sacks last year. He didn't "die out" mid-season either, besides he didn't blitz as much, therefore he didn't get anymore sacks (but is that his fault?).

In our new scheme, Gray said he'll be rotating players out more. Therefore I expect McRath, Ayers, and Curran to get some playing time this year. It's unlikely 'Spoon will last more than 2 years, Gray knows that, and he'll feel out our younger LBs to see what they have. I'm guessing Ayers will be starting by the end of the year.

Spoon is probably already penciled in as the MLB and will one of the few leaders we have on the team right now. He isn't going anywhere. Ayers will start for sure at SAM. McRath and Curran will fight it out for the weak side spot IMO. That means except for Spoon we have a rookie and 2nd or 3rd year guy starting. Not a bad mix IMO.
As noted Spoon can play anywhere so say we have an injury to Ayers. Spoon could actually go to SAM and McCarthy could play in the middle. Same on the other side. No he isn't a great player but he is a solid vet and on a team lacking vet leadership he is a key guy IMO. Now if McCarthy lights it up n camp and proves he is deserving of more playing time maybe but my guess is for this year anyway he is a back up and a STs guy.

I just feel that we are in a much need of a youth movement, and its just time for some of the more experienced youth on the team to step up finny, griffen.

I agree with you, but I just don't see it actually happening. Otherwise Chris Hope wouldn't be on the roster.

Todays the last day to make a cut before his salary bonus comes into play. If he's not cut today, it's unlikely he'll be cut.

chances are he will stay will the slim ss market and a slim depth chart, but we can only hope he goes a long with gage and a few others to let these young players play

I wouldnt be surprised if they are trying to re-negotiate Hopes contract. If we can get his cap number down to 2.5 million or so I would have no problem keeping him. I believe he is going to fit into this scheme much better then last years, we have mis used our safeties for the last 2 seasons.

I would much rather see Gage cut then Hope.
