Satisfied With WR

Personally, I think our WRs depth is average at best. I wish we would of improved it in the off-season.

Yes, Britt is solid. But he can't stay healthy nor stay out of trouble. If he gets his mind out of the gutter he could be something special and an elite WR.

Washington puts up decent numbers, but drops a ton of balls. He's a decent WR, nothing special though.

Gage is not consistent at all. He normally doesn't even show up at all.

D-Will has potential, but still needs to proove alot

our WR group sure has potential, but I would of liked to see us get a solid #2 still. Then roll with Britt - ??? - D-Will - Washington - Mariani, but its too late now. Maybe next year.

 

Also, my dream is for Damian Williams and Mariani to have great years. Then we can run with

Keep in mind, with the new kick-off rule, Mariani will be bored and fresh. He'll be able to get subbed in at WR.

 

Since I haven't seen or heard anything real positive about an UDFA lighting it up I doubt anyone unseats Gage or Hawkins. It is possible if they like one of the UDFAs they could sneak him on the roster during Britt's suspension and then maybe move them to the PS when he comes back.

Either way I'd assume we go with Gage, Washington and Williams as the 1,2 and 3 guys if/when Britt is suspended. Mariani is going to make the team no matter what. Cook is almost more of a slot WR now and could step outside easily if needed so they could even go with one less WR and one extra TE. So unless they have confidence in Hawkins to the point of keeping him over Gage I'm not sure he stays.

 

I know I'm a Mariani hater but He hasn't accomplished anything at the WR position last preseason last season or this preseason is starting to look like he will never be a top 4 WR for us.

It looks like he has the tools to be good,but he is not showing it vs 3rd and 4th string defenses why give him a shot with the first team?He needs to earn the spot and right now even Figurs looks better.

IMO, if the Britt suspension is short or no games at all, then they should just cut Gage. He doesn't play ST's & he's not getting any better. Him having a "good" camp is meaningless.

 

I'm with Costa on the Mariani assessment. I want him to work out, but he just doesn't seem to be there yet. The good thing is he'll make the team regardless so we'll always have an additional backup option at WR.

Hawkins has way more upside than Gage but just lacks the experience. You can't prove yourself when your not on the field and he hasn't been since he's been here in TN.

As far as talent goes IMO. The ranking looks like this

I'm really hoping to see more of Hawkins this year but I don't want to get my hopes up. If you correctly he could be a dangerous weapon because of his YAC capabilities. Washington and Gage just aren't gonna do much after the catch.

 

We only have role players at wr besides Britt and hes only good for 6 games a season.. i think we are close to having a wr core like we did 4 years ago.
